Robert Culbertson Obituary

ROBERT M. CULBERTSON, 89 EVANSVILLE, Wis. - Robert M. Culbertson, 89, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Evansville Manor. Born April 24, 1920, in Rockford, Ill., son of James W. Culbertson and Alice Brown. Lived most of his life in Rockford, moved to the Kelly House in Evansville in 2008. Married Elna Fransen in Rockford, on May 4, 1941. Retired from Barber Colman Co. of Rockford on Jan. 31, 1983, after 40 years of employment. After retiring, Bob spent many enjoyable years working on the farm of his friend, Lester Hill, near Dixon, Ill., repairing machinery, working in the fields and remodeling a barn into a sports training facility. The sports facility is used for practice by several high school and college girls softball teams. Mr. Hill stated that many thousands of dollars of college scholarships have been earned by girls that have practiced in the "Culbertson Sports Arena" over the past several years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft electrician on PBY flying boats in World War II. Member of the Unitarian Church in Rockford since 1950. Graduate of Rockford Central High School, Class of 1938. Survived by his good friend, Nancy Meyers; sons, Stephen (Carol) Culbertson of Evansville and Dr. Robert Jr. (Patricia) Culbertson of Beaumont, Texas; grandchildren, Scott Culbertson of Lancaster, Todd (Kim) Culbertson of Evansville, and Heather Ahmadi of Houston; grandchildren, Ashley, Amber and Austin of Evansville, Ryne Culbertson of Lancaster, Madeline and Ava Ahmadi of Houston; sister, Mildred Allen of Rockford. Predeceased by parents; two brothers, five sisters; and wife, Elna. A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford at a later date.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Bob Culbertson. I was an Office Assistant at the Unitarian Universalist Church 15 years ago and had the pleasure of working with Bob when he came in every week to do the church newsletter printing. He was a very nice gentleman!
