Robert Stolberg Obituary

ROBERT 'BOB' LEE STOLBERG, 69 1939 TO 2009 SAN DIEGO - Longtime Rockford, Ill., resident, Robert "Bob" Lee Stolberg, 69, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009, in San Diego, after a long and valiant fight against diabetes and its complications. Bob was born April 25, 1939, in Rockford, to Harry and Pauline Stolberg. He lived in Rockford, was a graduate of East High School. After completing his formal education, he went to work for Eagle Foods as a store manager for eight years. In 1956, he met his soul mate, Peggy, and they married in Rockford. Over the years, he and Peggy added to their family with the birth of their three children, Chris and Bob of San Diego, and Kathy of Ogden, Utah. Bob's many loves were time with the family, reading, the movies and the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. He also was a man of profound faith and love of his savior and was active at the Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala. In 1984, he and Peggy relocated from Rockford to San Diego, after retiring in order to be nearer to their children. Since moving, he loved spending quality time with his growing brood of loving grandchildren. Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and loved spending quality time with them. Bob will be remembered for his warmth and generosity. Our big-hearted Bob is survived by his wife; children and their spouses, Alec, Joanie and Liz; and grandchildren, Casey, Nicole, Kalie, Morgan, Siena, Alex and Ryan. Service from 5 to 8 p.m. with the rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in Greenwood Memorial Park in the Garden Chapel. Mass at 10:30 a.m. Friday, in Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcala, followed by burial service at 1 p.m. in Mission San Luis Rey de Francia.

Mrs Stolberg and family,(Peg)
Its like you watched us grow up and we watched you're children grow up. You and Bob were parents to at least 130 or more of us at a time. You are in my prayers, and will always remember how you welcomed all of us into you're hearts and home.

Peggy and family: What a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather you were blessed with. I, too, like so many, have wonderful memories of the "good old days of the Phantom Regiment". I know he's in a better place now and marching with the best of them. My prayers are with you all.

Peg and family-
Be blessed with good thoughts at this difficult time. So many of those thoughts revolve around the happy memories of life in the Phantom Regiment with Bob and Peg - you were instrumental in making the corps what is was to all of us then and what it represents now. Love to all of you-
Renee F.

Dear Peg and family,
What found memories we all have from the Regiment Days and beyond. Bob always enjoyed our visits and always begged for more. I am so greatful for the times I spent with you while you were in Ca. My thoughts and prayers have been with you and will continue. Much love to all.

Peg and family,
Although it has been many years since I have seen you I will never forget the times we spent together when we were new wives and mothers. Peg, you were always standing on a ladder or under the kitchen cabinets fixing some plumbing problem. I'm sure Bob knew how to do whatever it was that needed fixing but as I remember you liked to pound nails and fix things.

My condolences to you and your family in the loss of your husband and father.
