Robin Chaney Obituary

ROBIN C. CHANEY, 59 LOVES PARK - Robin C. Chaney, 59, of Loves Park passed away after battling cancer on Sunday, November 15, 2015, surrounded by selflessness and love, with his family by his side. Robin was born May 22, 1956, in Chicago; son to Robert and Alberta (Jeske) Chaney and brother to Dale McGady and Vicky Rippberger. He joined the U.S. Army in 1974. In his years of military duty and travels, Robin solidified his endless love with Iris Neshyba, of Germany, and they married on January 14, 1983, in Lawton, OK. In 1990, they welcomed their daughter Christine Chaney. In 1995, after proudly serving in the U.S. Army for 22 years, Robin retired at Fort Stewart. Robin and his family moved back to Illinois where he continued to work for Motorola until he was diagnosed with MS in 1999. Robin was fascinated by technology, building computers while enjoying music with dog, Sam, lying nearby. Strong in his faith, Robin was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church. He was a true Illinois sports fan, and on his day of passing the Bears won, Packers lost. The last word Robin spoke before his passing was "remember". He is survived by wife, Iris; daughter, Christine (Nic Barnett) Chaney; mother, Alberta Chaney; sister, Vicky Rippberger; brother-in-law, Shawn McGady; host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Chaney and sister, Dale McGady. A Memorial Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2015, in the chapel of Cremation Society of Illinois, 6825 Weaver Road, followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m. Fr. Like Mitchell Tempkin, I too grew up around Robin, we attended Volta School together on Chicago's northside.

We had good times together during great years to have a childhood in the city.

To Robin's family, please accept my late but sincere condolences, from an old boyhood classmate of his.

Sincerely,
Paul Yamauchi

I grew up in Chicago, across the alley from Robin. We were best friends in 7th and 8th grade. He was 6'1" and I was 5'1". He would come to my house and we'd listen to Beatles records and laugh hysterically at our juvenile jokes. Robin gave me the Beatles "Second Album" which I still have to this day. Most 12-13 year-old boys don't confide much in each other, but Robin trusted me enough to let me know he hated being teased about his height, and being called Big Bird or Beak. He was open and honest and trustworthy. A great friend, and at such a vulnerable age. After going to different high schools, we never saw each other again, but I always looked back fondly at our friendship. Today I searched for him online and found this obituary. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. His memory lives on in me, as I'm sure it does in all who knew him. RIP Robin.
