Roger DeLong Obituary

ROGER G. DELONG, 97 MOUNT PLEASANT, WI - Roger G. DeLong, 97, passed away peacefully with his family on February 22, 2015, at his residence in Mount Pleasant, WI. Mr. DeLong was born in Logansport, Indiana to James and Esther DeLong. He was married to Nancy E. DeLong who predeceased him in 2003. After graduating from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mr. DeLong attended Harvard Business School. Mr. DeLong worked at Twin Disc, Inc. from 1939-1986. He held positions of increasing responsibility during his long tenure at Twin Disc. His leadership and vision for what Twin Disc could achieve as a company kept him energized until he retired as President and Assistant Chairman of the Board. Mr. DeLong had the uncanny ability to engage all he met by asking about their family and their interests. He was a charming story teller and enjoyed life to its fullest. He was a valued member of each of the following Board of Directors: The BloodCenter of Wisconsin, Oilgear Company, Snap-on Inc., St. Mary's Hospital (Racine), Sundstrand Corporation and Waukesha Motor Company. Mr. DeLong was a member of the Milwaukee Country Club, Racine Country Club, Somerset Club and the Town Club. He is survived by his daughter, Lynden L. DeLong of Indianapolis, IN; son and daughter-in-law, R. James (Christine) DeLong of Town of Genesee, WI; daughter, E. Nicole DeLong of Farmington, CT; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan and Daniel DeLong; and his dear friend and companion, Jacquie Macomber of Fox Point, WI. In keeping with Mr. DeLong's wishes, private services and burial were held at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, as he was laid to rest next to his wife, Nancy. Memorials may be made to the BloodCenter Research Foundation, PO Box 2178, Milwaukee, WI 53201-2178. Online condolences may be expressed at sturinofuneralhome.com.

We had the pleasure of joining Roger many times for Sunday brunch at the Racine Country Club with our mutual friend, Bill Lewis. We always enjoyed his company and our conversations on diverse topics from travel, to business, and family. We certainly admired his impeccable attire. He was such a gentleman and we will miss him. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.

Lyn and family
I remember both of your parents fondly. One recollection I have is of being a guest at a "formal" dinner (ie in the dining room) at your Clinton Place house-a bit intimidating for a youngster. Your father was so kind, putting me at ease and finding something in common for us to talk about.
You have my sympathy for your loss.

My condolences to Roger's family. Nancy was my first cousin. My husband just passed away also, on February 13. Three years ago, we moved from Rockford to TX, so we could be just minutes away from our sons here. May Roger rest in peace.
