Ruth Goebel Obituary

RUTH 'LUCILLE' GOEBEL, 91 ROSCOE - Ruth "Lucille" Goebel, 91, of Roscoe died Thursday, _Jan. 12, 2012. Born March 16, 1920, in Buckhorn, to the Rev. Edwin and Elizabeth Cory. Lucille graduated from Xenia (Ill.) High School. Lucille Cory married Robert Vernon Goebel on March 1, 1939, in St. Louis. Their journey eventually brought them to Roscoe. Lucille was a member of the Roscoe United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star Roscoe Chapter 641. She also volunteered and worked the Golden Oldies shop at Wesley Willows. Lucille enjoyed studying and discussing the Bible and various subjects. She created and sold crafts and gave the proceeds to the Rockford Rescue Mission and various church missions which also included the food pantry in Rockton. Lucille felt no child should ever have to go to bed hungry. Her motto was, "I am going to live until I die." She endured the loss of many close friends. She cherished her friendship with Doris Fisher and enjoyed their many outings including Culvers. She left behind daughters, "Barbara" (the late Chuck) Stockwell and Connie Neblock, both of Roscoe, Janice (Sid) Hensel of Loves Park, Marion (Steve) Hutchison of Madison, Wis., Mary Goebel of Rockford, Ruth (Hans) Bruegger of Rockton; sister, Majorie Sue Kemp of St. Peters, Mo. She bragged about her 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased family members: parents, Edwin and Elizabeth Cory; sister, Bernice Downs; husband, Robert Vernon Goebel; daughter, Barbara Ann Stockwell; son-in-law, Jack Neblock; and grandson-in-law, Joseph Pinkston. Memorial service celebrating Lucille Goebel's life at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main St., Roscoe, with visitation from 1 p.m. to time of service; food and fellowship after the service at the church. Her cremated remains will be placed in her lot at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be distributed between Beloit Regional Hospice, Rockford Rescue Mission and Roscoe United Methodist Church Missions. Sunset Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
