Sam was a great man and loved by so many. And he was a great South Rockford Sicilian. We were proud he still lived in our "old neighborhood" with us. He gave so much. His service to the people of St. Anthony Church and hospital are legendary. I so admire his service to our country too. A Purple Heart! Well done there too Sam! To raise such a large family, work full-time and minister to people's faith life - as well as cook well, are exceptional achievements. Thank you Priscilla and kids for sharing him with the St. Anthony Church family. I am so glad that we were able to honor him in our church's 100th anniversary book and the Register Star took notice of his retirement as a deacon at church. He certainly deserved all the accolades. My favorite memory is when I stopped at his house to give him a copy of the Register Star article and he was making stuffed peppers - he gave me two for my husband and me and they were just delicious. A typical loving, giving Italian...whose home you couldn't visit without leaving with some goodies. Make that apple pie for God, Sam. God rest your soul.
