Dear Stromquist family and friends,

My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. I was so sorry to hear about Strom's passing--what a phenomenal teacher and overall great person. I was fortunate enough to have Strom for a teacher back in 1994-1995, and he not only taught us about chemistry, but also about life in general. He was a role-model, always led by example, and I almost never saw him in a bad mood. We are all better people for having known him and learned from him. Thanks for everything Strom!!

Strom was a fantastic teacher. He made chemistry interesting and understandable to me and many other students, and he did it with humor. I'm a teacher now, and I can say that Strom was one of the (many) HHS teachers who inspired me. He will certainly be missed and remembered by many.

To the Stromquist family,
I was very fortunate to have been one of Steve's students. His knowledge and passion for teaching left an impression on every student that was fortunate enough to have had him. He was the kind of teacher that made the students want to be in school and learn from him. His passing is a great loss to the field of education. He will be greatly missed by all whom have had the pleasure of knowing him.
Sincerely,

Kevin Buckner

I am so very honored to have known Strom on so many different levels, helping put up hay on the family farm, helping vaccinate the sheep, breaking bread after a hard days work with Steve,Sue, John, and Marian, working in the greenhouse rather than go to study hall, having Strom there to help push me along - to always do more, to always do my best, to never accept NO for an answer, to recommending me for the groundskeeper position at Woodward, to letting me in the weight room after work while he graded papers or just talking to inspire, or to selecting me for an honor on honor's night, to being there when I broke my sternum to help once again, not to stay down after the fall, but instead ---"Sink or Swim, it's your call". I do not write of all these many things (I apoligize for not naming them all, this book is not big enough )to brag, boast, or host conceit, but to tell of just one man's (then boy) encounters with to this day, still one of, if not the the greatest man I've ever known. Though I still can't talk myself into believing that he's really gone, I do feel a little bit better in knowing that Strom is up there looking out for us all. To John, Marian, and Sue, our thoughts and prayers are with you, now and always. To Strom, my old friend, till someday we meet again ---So long, not goodbye, thanks for the guidance, inspiration, experience, knowledge, hope, courage, laughs, and also the wonderful memories!!!

Sue and the Stromguist Family,

Steve will always remain in our mind as a wonderful husband, son, teacher and friend. One of the best people God ever put on this earth. We were the fortunate ones to have called him "friend". We see him sitting besides his maker and they are having conversations on gardening, football, softball, fishing and teaching! All with that fabulous smile on his face that Steve was famous for and shared with us all.
We will miss him here on Earth, but we know we will see that smile again in God's Kingdom! God bless you all!

Dear Sue, John and Marian,
Our hearts go out to all of you and your family. Even though it has been a couple years since we moved out of the area and have seen you you have often been in our prayers as we heard of Steve's health problems. We never had anything but the utmost respect for Steve as a coach, teacher and person. He always seemed to have a positive attitude and a kind word for anyone. We are sure he is a role model for many young people who are now in the teaching and coaching fields. He had a quiet way of caring and not drawing attention to himself. John and Marian--be proud of the wonderful son you raised. And Sue--it is obvious you 2 were meant to be together because you shared so many wonderful traits. May God give you peace.

The Stromquist Family,
I am very sad to hear Strom passed away recently. He was such a blessing to countless people from all walks of life. I pray that God will grant you His peace and grace and help you to know that Strom is rejoicing in the glory of our Lord. Strom was the first person to share the story of the Prodigal Son with me, and how much love God has for His people, and I praise God for blessing me with the chance to learn from Strom both in and out of the classroom.

the LORD blesses his people with peace.”

I'm sure that many other HHS chemistry students are thinking the same thing I'm thinking right now - "It's all dump trucks and donuts, people, dump tricks and donuts!" (It was definitely Strom's mantra while he taught us about moles and jules.)

He was a great teacher and a wonderful person, and my thoughts are with his family.

Sue,
Our prayers go out to you now, as they have been for some time. Our family will always have fond memories of you and Steve and time spent together especially during football season. Ryan has been praying for "Strom" in class at school for some time now. When I told Ryan yesterday the news I heard from William, his face just fell..... and he said, "but I prayed for him today at school mama,......" We are so sorry for all you have been through.... and have thought of you both often. May God Bless You, Jannel Heller

Sue,

I just wanted you to know that you are in my family's thoughts and prayers. Steve was a coach to my sons Kyle and Jarred and a teacher to them also plus my daughter Chelsie. All three of them were involved in FCA because of Steve and his relationship with the Lord. My son Dillon was only fortunate enough to know him through the camps, but he has wonderful memories of him also. Steve was a wonderful coach and teacher. His true legacy was being a wonderful son, brother to his family and husband to you, and a wonderful person and Christian. He will be missed.

To the loved ones of Steve Stromquist:

To A Wonderful Man Who Will Be Missed:

The day has come. Many of us lost a coach, friend, and mentor. Strom was an amazing person who had so much insight on the life that surrounded him. He was a mentor in the way which he sculpted others: he cared so much about bringing up his football players as true gentlemen and encouraged everyone he was with to act as respectful individuals. I remember a quote he told all of his players my sophomore football season regarding cursing, "Swearing is for ignorant people, the least you could do is use highly sophisticated words, ones that had more than four letters." Strom always discouraged show-boating, cockiness, and arrogance.

Strom was a wonderful teacher, and he always stressed that his students should perform at their highest potential. Grades were always number one, and if he was concerned with academic performance, he would help tutor in order to bring up the grade. The best feeling that I ever had is that I did not feel like a regular day-to-day student at Hononegah High School, Strom knew the majority of his students on a personal level, and he made me feel important: this is such a special feeling that most teachers do not bother doing. I am truly thankful for the time I spent talking to him because he gave advice regarding how people should be more caring and compassionate. He led a group called FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). These mornings were some of the most personally rewarding experiences I have ever had. Strom talked to all of his members about living in a way that was along God’s path, and many of his lessons revolved around not giving into evil temptations during everyday life.

Unfortunately, two years ago while caddying at Rockford Country Club, I was told that Strom was diagnosed with a very deadly cancer and that he probably did not have much time. I was utterly shocked when I heard about the results of the MRI. This man lived for two more years when he was projected to live for only a few months. He was so strong. I talked to him after coming home from college, and I asked him how he was doing, hinting to him that I knew about his illness; but instead, he asked me how I was and how school was going. We talked about graduate schools for physical therapy one afternoon, then Strom and I reminisced about his years at Illinois State and Ohio State. Since I am a Michigan fan, I would give him grief about his Buckeye Football Team. Still, I was shocked because this man remained so cheerful and optimistic throughout the times with his terrible disease, but Strom was not fearful because he knew he was going to the higher power in a much better place. If he was suffering, he would not admit to it. I cannot believe how strong he was, but once again, I can only assume that the lack of fear was because he knew he was going to enter Heaven’s Gate.

Most importantly, I am truly grateful to know and speak with Steve Stromquist. This man was a role model who challenged all the people he associated with to become better people and due to his teachings, I will try my best not to be ignorant, arrogant, and be humble. There are so many other things I could say about him, but for now, I will say thank you to a humble coach, a wonderful teacher, and a very wise mentor. Strom your words will always go through my brain, and hopefully I can try to be half the man you were. I cannot imagine trying to fill your shoes, it is impossible. Instead, I will attempt to walk down the path that you helped guide us to and use as the foundation to our individual lives. Thanks for being such a great man, touching the lives you did, and living the life you lived. Rest in peace.

I am very sad to hear about the passing of Strom. He was the kind of person to look up to and model your life after. I am grateful that God allowed us to have such a wonderful person to touch so many lives, and it is comforting to know that Strom is in a better place, no longer suffering. He made a mark in the community and he will be dearly missed.
