Thomas Almond Obituary

thomas earl almond, 78 ROCKFORD - Thomas Earl Almond, 78, of Rockford died Thursday, May 6, 2010, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Born Sept. 1, 1931, in Rockford to Roy and Helen (Garry) Almond. Thomas served in the USAF until being honorably discharged in 1953. Married to Glenna Sharp from October 1951 until her death in April 1969. Married to Virgie Howard from August 1971 until her death in August 1995. Worked several years in route sales before working for Greenlee, where he retired after 20 years of service. Survived by children, Don (Nannette) Almond, Diane (John) Poletto, David Almond and Dan Almond; sisters, Mary Lindstrand and Margie Hobbs; sister-in-law, Willa Almond; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and three nephews. Predeceased also by parents; daughter, Deborah; brother, Jim; three brothers-in- law; two grandchildren and one niece. Special thanks to son, David for all the care he provided so Tom could survive a few more years. We would also like to thank the angels on the seventh floor nurses station of SwedishAmerican Hospital, who gave Tom the best care possible. Memorial service at 4 p.m. Friday, May 14, in Wilbur Christenson Funeral Home, 925 Third Ave., Rockford.>
