Dr. Wayne R. Johnson Sr., 84 ROCKFORD - Dr. Wayne R. Johnson Sr., 84, of Rockford died at 11:14 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, in Kindred Hospital, Sycamore. Born Feb. 3, 1927, in Rockford, the son of Gunnar B. and Irene (Peterson) Johnson. Graduate of East High School, Class of 1945; Wheaton College; and University of Illinois Dental School. Served in the U.S. Marines. He married Ruth N. Lindstrom in 1952 in Beloit, Wis. Wayne owned a dental practice in Rockford for many years. Member of First Evangelical Free Church. He had his pilot's license and enjoyed flying. Wayne is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Dick (Linda) Johnson of Cherry Valley, Dan ( Lynn ) Johnson of Dana Point, Calif., and Julie Ann (Randy) Leek of Byron; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Gayle (Cliff) Linhart; and sister-in-law, Janet Johnson. Predeceased by brother, Gerald, and niece, Cindy Johnson. Service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center Chapel, 3470 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Memorials to the family for a memorial to be established.
