Wayne A. Ring 1926—2018
Wayne A. Ring, lifelong resident of Rockford, died October 9, 2018. He was born February 15, 1926, to Harold and Alin (Sund) Ring. Wayne graduated in 1944 from East High School and was accepted into the Navy V-12 program. He received his Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering in 1947, from the University of Illinois. In addition, he was a member of the U of I championship golf team. He married Miriam Anderson on December 26, 1948, and share nearly 70 years of wonderful marriage. Wayne worked for Barber Colman from 1948-1988, in development engineering. He was an adjunct professor at Rockford College where he taught statistics. Wayne was an accomplished violinist who frequently shared his music with church and with the Rockford Chamber Orchestra. In retirement, Wayne especially enjoyed spending time with family at Lake Ripley in Cambridge, Wisconsin. He also was an active volunteer at Swedish American Hospital for over 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Miriam; daughter, Carol (Terry) Warkentien; sons, Gordon (Jan) and David (Kathi); grandchildren, Erika Hagen, Siri Warkentien, John Warkentien, Courtney Ring, Jessica Ring, Brad Ring, Nick Ring; and nine great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents and infant brother, Gordon.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford, IL. Visitation will be from 12 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. At the request of the family, burial will be private in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Swedish American Foundation, designated for the Volunteer Office, 1415 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61104.
