Adrian Carpenter Obituary

CHESTER - Adrian "Barney" Carpenter passed away March 11, 2015, at the age of 92 from natural causes. Barney was born in Worcester, MA, on March 29th, 1922, son of the late Evelyn and Fred Carpenter. Barney enlisted in the Navy in 1942; he was an airplane mechanic, a flight engineer and an aerial gunner, stationed in the Solomon Islands. He received four battle stars during his service. When he returned to MA. He married Lois Foster, they had one son Terrone. In 1946 they were divorced, Barney moved to Chester VT in 1947. He married Francese Hazen Dec. 25th, 1949, and they had one daughter, Adrianna. Barney worked at Erwin Motors in Claremont NH, then moved to Riverside Garage in Springfield, VT. In 1952, he started his own business called Barney's Texaco, in Chester. He ran the garage for 26 years. After he closed the garage, he opened a bike shop on North St. He retired from and closed the bike shop in 2008. During the time that he ran the bike shop, he volunteered and drove clients for Sevca, Town and Country Transit, and Connecticut River Transit.

He is survived by his son, Terrone; grandson, Terrone; granddaughter Laurel; grandson, John T. Goode III; three sisters Virginia, Kay and Glenna; son in law Richard Frye; sister in law Leona Hazen; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Barney was predeceased by his wife, Francese, in 2011; and his daughter, Adrianna, in 2013.

Since his retirement, with the help of his son in law, Richard, he lived peacefully in the stone village in Chester with his dog, Sammy. He especially enjoyed his Friday night dinners at the Legion. Barney was well known and loved in the Chester area. Most of the locals here remember him dealing with his daughter's horses, or used his garage or bike shop. He will be missed by many of us.

A graveside service will take place in the North St. Cemetery, Chester at a later date to be announced.

Arrangements are in care of Adams Funeral Home, Chester.

Papa, In our haste to get your obituary completed we left out a very important item. That you were an avid New England Sports fan and never missed a televised Celtics or Red Sox Game. I know you will somehow be cheering for your teams and screaming when you think they got a bad call. JT and us will always think of you during the games. You were the best father-in-law ever.
