David Demasi Obituary

David Demasi, 55, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 30.
The son of Jerry Demasi and Patricia Perry, he was born December 1, 1959 in Barre, VT. He graduated from Northfield Jr.- Sr. High School in 1978, and graduated from University of Southern Massachusetts at North Dartmouth, MA. in 1982.
He returned to Northfield, VT, to teach art for 3 years before moving to Fair Haven Union High School, where he continued to teach art and photography for another 28 years, retiring in 2013. He kept busy working part time for Fair Haven Dodge.
In 1982 David married Terri Blow and this past July they celebrated 33 years together. David and Terri were blessed with a daughter, Cricket, and a son, Dylan. His children were his everything.
David's love of family, friends, and life were known by many. An avid baseball fan (though mostly just the Nationals), David was also a Daniel Boone connoisseur, used-record store enthusiast and a walking, talking jukebox of musical trivia. He was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and made an annual trek to Cleveland. But most importantly, David Demasi was a man. Yes, a big man.
He is survived by his wife, Terri; daughter Cricket, and son Dylan, both of Los Angeles, CA; brother Jerry Demasi Jr., Keene, NH; sister and brother-in-law Jenny and Michael Jennings and family, So. Ryegate, VT; brother Douglas Demasi and family, Yulee, FL; brother Regan Demasi, Waterbury, VT.
Please join family and friends on Sunday, November 8th, at The Fair Haven American Legion from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Share a memory or a laugh.

It's already been posted a lot, but I'm gonna repeat it....Mr. Demasi was and incredible teacher and inspiration. I love his laid back style of teaching. He pushed to get the greatest out of you, but it never seemed like pushing. He was an incredible man. I'm so sorry for his family's loss! Always remember the good times. Even the smallest but special things!

Since I've learned of Mr. Demasi's passing my thoughts and prayers have been with his family. I owe a great amount of gratitude to Mr.Demasi for being the teacher he was, the kind and gentle soul that could bring life to art for any student! I had major surgery in high school and Mr. Demasi sent me flowers. He made me feel so special and always took the time to lend an ear, a smile and a song. I once wrote a college essay on him as one of the persons who influenced my path in life. I regret not sharing this with him but take solace in knowing that somewhere he is making music mixes and teaching the Angels to draw!

I am so sorry to hear this. Mr. Demasi was my art teacher, and a favorite teacher, at Northfield in 1983. He and Terri invited me over for dinner, and took me to my first ever rock concert (Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense tour!). I remember their excitement about their new baby. He expanded my small town horizons in a big way, partly by playing his students a new album in class every Friday. Much of that music I still love and associate with him. Now I'm a teacher too, and I sure would be glad if any of my students remembered me with the fondness I have for him.

To The Demasi Family: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My mother, Florence Fitchett (Flossie) was great friends with Aunt Pat. From what I have been told, Aunt Pat wanted me to be named Penelope, but mom compremised and called me Penny Jane. Thank you Aunt Pat (who also finished sewing my wedding dress the night before the ceremony back in 1978)! I wish we had kept in touch and now the moment has past. RIP David. Say hello to your Mom and mine as well for me.

Mr. Demasi was a truly kind and wonderful teacher. I encouraged me, someone who felt like they had zero artistic ability, to find a niche and to enjoy art. Every time I take a good picture, I have him to thank for it. He will be missed.

David supported and encouraged me with every class. He helped me break out of my shell. My senior year of high school was turbulent, but with his support I made it to college, and became the first in my family to finish. I wish I had gotten the chance to truly thank him.
My sincerest condolences to the Demasi family.

Mr. Demasi was a superb teacher and mentor. He gave his time happily and often, even to students like myself who could fit an art class into their schedule, he'd gladly meet before or after school to give insight and advice. He left an indelible mark on so many of us, and inspired so much love for art in so many. Rest in peace Mr. Demasi, you will never be forgotten.
