Dear Hewitt Family,
I am writing to send my sincere sympathy on the loss of Jim.
My father-in-law was Tony LaPlaca (part owner of Potter's Garage in West Rutland). He always spoke so highly of the Hewitt boys as highly skilled auto mechanics and felt very fortunate to have them working for Potter's.
May warm memories help you through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Fran LaPlaca

I met Jim when I was in West Rutland High School at Potter's Garage, where I waited for my Mother to pick me up. The time passed quickly as he taught me all about car parts catologues and schematics which later propelled me to instructor positions in the US Air Force. He never seemed to tire of my questions: a peach of a man.
