Jonathon Sherman Obituary

Jonathon F. "Jon" Sherman, 66, died Sept. 7, 2012, at Rutland Health Care.

He was born in Rutland, Dec. 10, 1945, son of Samuel A. and Jeannette (Ullman) Sherman.

Jon was a 1963 graduate of Rutland High School. He attended St. Peter's College, Castleton State College and Boston University.

He worked in his father's store, Carroll Cut Rate and later became owner and developed JO-RI Complex with his brother Rick. He was a real estate broker instrumental in the sale of the famous Berwick Hotel, a kitchen designer for Vesco at condominiums in Killington, Okemo and Burlington. He traveled to the World Trade Show in Russia with a kitchen designed and made in Rutland. He opened Sam's Liquidation Center in Williston. Jon moved to PA and was a Financial Advisor with American Express.

In his childhood, Jon had a love for the outdoors. He was a Boy Scout and Eagle Scout. He was a Cub Scout Leader in Rutland Town and a Little League Coach.

Jon enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, boating on Lake Bomoseen and Lake Champlain, family vacations in his motor home to Maine and Florida.

He was a member of The United Way, Rutland Downtown Development, Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club and being a "Jolly Santa" for many groups of children.

Jon was known for his love for life, humor, giving, adventure, ambition, determination and family.

Surviving are 3 sons, James, Jeffrey, Jared and wife, Jenn; 1 daughter, Alicia; former wife and friend, Jean; a granddaughter, Averie; nieces and nephews.

Jon leaves behind his wit 'n wisdom, love for family and no regrets. Live life to its fullest and his theme, "I DID IT MY WAY.'

A memorial celebration of Jon's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Downtown Development Fund, care of Clifford Funeral Home, 2 Washington St., Rutland, Vt. 05701.

So sorry to hear of Jon's passing. He and my brother, Jerry, were best of friends. Jon loved my mother's macaroni and meatballs and he often joined us for Sunday dinner. I shall always remember his great smile, his wonderful sense of humor and his infectious laugh. My condolences to Jon's family and friends.
