Patricia Tofferi Obituary

SOUTH BURLINGTON - Born on July 25, 1941, in Ludlow, Vermont, Patricia Tofferi passed away at her home on January 16, 2015, in South Burlington. At age 73, Pat lost a valiant battle with several cancers and COPD. The family will forever be grateful to Dr. Jennifer Gilwee for her competent and compassionate care over the years. The daughter of Anthony Perrino Senior & Stephania (Gurdak) Perrino, Pat graduated from Black River High School in 1959. She went on to attend Wilford Academy in Boston, earning a degree in Cosmetology. Upon graduation, Pat remained in Boston working for various beauty salons and she returned to Ludlow in 1962 entering new employment at Jean's Beauty Salon in Rutland, Vermont. Pat married Eugene L. Tofferi, also a resident of Ludlow in June of 1967, and the couple moved to Burlington, Vermont, that same year. Pat was then employed as Manager of Town and Country Beauty Salon in Shelburne, Vermont.

Pat was a devoted mother of two daughters, Andrea Tofferi and Nicole Tofferi Diebold. Volunteering as a library assistant at South Burlington's Chamberlin School, becoming a Girl Scout Troop leader, waiting for hours in the Bolton Valley Ski Lodge to catch a glimpse of her girls coming down the mountain, cheering on the sidelines at every softball, basketball and soccer game, cutting hair for all of the neighborhood kids; Pat was actively involved in supporting all of her daughters' activities. In recent years, she extended that same support, joy and enthusiasm toward her beloved grandchildren, Harrison and Anna Diebold. She taught us all to enjoy the simple things in life: sighting a red cardinal, cultivating her vegetable garden and tending to her abundant flowers were some of her favorite pastimes.

Pat is survived by her husband, Gene Tofferi; and her daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Joseph Diebold; and her two grandchildren, Harrison and Anna Diebold, all of Burlington, Vermont. Pat also leaves behind two brothers and their spouses, Thomas and Barbara Perrino of Newark, Vermont, and Peter and Valarie Perrino of Mount Holly, Vermont; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Tofferi and wife Cindy, sister-in-law, Ann Dunnett and husband George Dunnett and sister-in-law, Alma Goodman all of Ludlow, Vermont. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents; and her daughter, Andrea Jean Tofferi; as well as her two brothers, Paul Perrino and Anthony Perrino Jr.

Services will be held at the Church of Annunciation on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11 a.m., located at 7 Depot Street, Ludlow, Vermont.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Adams Funeral Home, 12 Meadow Street, Ludlow, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.

My heart is sad today as I receive the news. We called her "Aunt" Pat, she called me "Duffy". There certainly did not need to be a blood relation for us to feel incredibly close. Not everybody in this world is lucky enough to say that they felt like they had a second mom, but growing up that's what "Aunt" Pat was to me. I Learned how to swim like a fish at Aunt Pat and Uncle Gene's house, When I was little she used to lift me up on the counter so that I could eat my SpaghettiOs without that their rambunctious golden retriever, Tosha jumping up on me :) We spent many long evenings listening to my parents and aunt Pat and uncle Gene laughing together. I always felt so at home over there. As I grew up and moved numerous times, the contact became less and less. Seeing her as an adult and introducing her to my new husband made me so happy. I was hopeful that she would like him I was eager for her approval. I knew that she would give me an honest opinion. She told me that she thought my husband was the perfect guy for me. It made me so happy to know that she approved. Wonderful mother, incredible friend, aunt Pat, you will be so terribly missed. Uncle Gene, my thoughts are with you and I'm so incredibly sorry for this unbearable loss. I will keep you close to my heart. Love you, Duffy

Dear Gene and Niki, I am having lots of tears for a funny funny lady, I called my 2nd mom. Growing up next door and then just a short hop down the street, makes for life time of memories with lots of laughs along with some very sad times. Memories I will cherish. She made living next door so much fun. I will never forget the time she managed to fix the old jeep or Scout you had Gene, she had me hold the hood open so she could figure out what was going on, I can still hear that laugh once she got it started. I loved the time we all went camping and she knew how Rodney loved his lobster, so she boiled that little cray fish. I think we have a photo of that somewhere. She was a very strong person that somehow kept her humor up during the saddest times. When I was at the house right after Andrea passed, she still wanted to show me how her garden was coming along,I couldn't believe how she somehow kept it all together. She made everyone laugh even at Andrea's funeral, when a big burst of thunder came out of the sky, Pat replied "that damn Andrea always had to get the last word in", well Pat #2 May you rest in piece and be with your first born forever. Gene and Nik, love you both and know she will watching over those grandkids, she certainly loved them so much. xoxo #3
