Akito Masaki

Akito Masaki passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018. Akito was a lifelong resident of Sacto, except for the years of Japanese internment at Tule Lake during World War II, and relocation into Brigham City, Utah, and then to Chicago, before settling back in Sacto. Akito served in the Armed Forces and through the GI bill, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. Moving back to Sacramento, he opened a gift store downtown which he closed to start a grocery business with his father, Harry Masaki. Senator Fish Market opened in 1962 and closed upon his retirement in 1995. He is survived by his wife Emi; sisters Toshiye Fujikawa and Tomiye Sato; children Beckie (Enrique) and Ross (Grace) and grandchildren Reid and Annika; and numerous nephews and nieces. We will always remember and carry forward his deep commitment and gratitude to his close knit extended family, longtime friends, and community. His wishes were to have a private family service, which will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ACC Care Center, Sacramento Buddhist Church, or an organization of your choice.
