Albert Lang Obituary

LANG, Albert Lares
Born Dec. 19, 1926, in Blue Grass, ND. Died July 7, 2005, in Elk Grove, CA, from complications due to lung cancer. Husband of the late Dorothy (Anderson) Lang (married 48 years); father of Dwight Daniel Lang, father-in-law of Sylvia Wanner Lang, grandfather of Charles Wanner Lang and Vanessa Wanner Lang (all of Ann Arbor, MI); brother of Lillian Bailor, Ralph Lang, Helen Lang, Evelyn Fitzgerald and Larry Lang; uncle of numerous nieces and nephews; special friend and loving companion of Mary Bright; and friend, sage and commentator to many others, including Jim Raleigh, and Dorothy and Leo Rodeburg. Preceded in death by his parents Rose Lang and Frank Lang Jr. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and later worked as a coal miner in Montana. As a journeyman plumber he helped construct facilities at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley, CA. In the mid-1950s he was both a working plumber and plumber's union agent/organizer in the Lake Tahoe area. In 1957 he moved to Rio Linda (to Elk Grove in 1977) and for the majority of his working life was involved in the construction of homes in the Sacramento area. He furthered the community through his labor, concern and creativity. He was a proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 447 for over 45 years - a union man to the core. He enjoyed discussing politics in all of its amazing complexity and proposed an array of suggestions/ideas regarding the improvement of society, especially problems associated with social inequality and injustice. For Albert, the union movement represented a central vision and hope for the working person. He will be greatly missed. Family and friends would like to extend special thanks to caretaker Sheila Crawford for her gentle care and concern during recent weeks. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2005 from 4-8 pm with reflections and remembrances at 6:30 pm and interment services will occur on Monday, July 18, at 11:00 AM at SUNSET LAWN CHAPEL OF THE CHIMES, 4701 Marysville Blvd., Sacramento, (916) 922-5833.

I was introduced to Al by Mary Bright and enjoyed his company several afternoons on the Sacramento River luncheon cruises when we'd have to opportunity for some nice long talks. I treasured hearing Al tell of his life experiences and appreciated his generousity of spirit in sharing his tips for my do-it-yourself sprinkler installation projects. Our group solved many of the world's problems during those talks; but the politicians failed to take our advice. We always enjoyed sharing a few good jokes and I soon found Al's quiet-man facade hid a delightful, insightful and entertaining man. We shall all miss him and the world seems a duller place without him.
