SALONTAI, ANDREW P.
"ANDY"
Passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on January 11, 2002. Born in Bethlehem, PA on October 28, 1919 to parents Mary and Andrew. Married 57 years, Andy was a loving husband to wife Mary; beloved "Pop-O" to daughter Mary Catherine, (Mootsie); beloved Dad to son Andy, (A.J.) and wife Lisa; daughter Ilona Severns; and daughter Karen and husband David Correll. Devoted and affectionate Grandpa to Eric Salontai and Cathy, Andrew and Sarah Severns. Brother to Grace Kern, Elsie Ament, Laura Esposito, Nellie Doncsecz and Elmer Salontai, all of Bethlehem, PA and Joseph Salontai, of Holtville, CA. He was a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews and a dear friend to many people. Andy dedicated 55 years promoting veteran benefits and interests. Entering the U. S. Army in June of 1944, he was a member of the 84th Inf. Div., 309th Combat Engineer Battalion, Co. B. He remained in the military up to and including the occupation of Germany. Discharged in 1946, Andy joined the American Legion, E. H. Ackerman Post 397 in Hellertown, PA. After moving to CA in 1948 he transferred to Haggin Grant Post 521 in Rio Linda. In addition to being a life member of A.L. Post 521 and Voiture 268, he was also a life member of the VFW and DAV. Andy served as Commander of A.L. Post 521, Sacramento County Council, 6th Dist. Commander, CA Vice Commander and Department Commander of CA (1970 - 71). Within the 40 et 8, Andy was Chef de Gare of Voiture 268, Grande Chef de Gare du California and Chef de Chemin de Fer Nationale (1988 - 89). Family and friends are invited to attend the Rosary on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at 7:00 P.M. and the Funeral Mass on Friday, January 18, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. Both services will be held at St. Philomene Catholic Church, 2428 Bell Street, Sacramento, CA. Interment, Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by the North Sacramento Funeral Home.
