Ann Elizabeth Bechtel

February 3, 1937 - February 21, 2025

Sacramento, California - Born on February 3, 1937 to Elizabeth Ann Wagner and Allan John "Jack" Wagner of Sacramento. Ann Wagner Bechtel was a third generation Californian. She graduated from Sacramento High School in 1954 and from UC Berkeley in 1958. She was an active member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and served as president for one term. In 1959, she married Ivan R. Polk. In 1961, she obtained her secondary school teacher's credential and taught high school English and Spanish in Portland Public Schools for several years.

Her girl-boy twins Elizabeth and Ivan were born in 1966. After her divorce, she moved back to Sacramento. In 1976 she married Marlin "Monk" Bechtel, who passed away in 1987. She was employed at both the General Library and at King Hall Law Library at UCDavis as a library assistant for sixteen years. Upon retirement, she was an active member of the Easter Seal Guild and also wrote three books of family history. She also traveled extensively at this time.

She leaves behind her daughter, Elizabeth "Liz" Tholen (Martin) of Placerville and her son Ivan Polk (Gwen) of Eugene, Oregon and her precious grandchildren, Airman Jack Polk of Biloxi, Mississippi and Sadie Polk of Eugene, Oregon. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Shriner's Hospital.

A memorial service will take place on March 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Fremont Presbyterian Church on 5770 Carlson Drive, Sacramento will a reception to follow at the Clubhouse at East Ranch.

Ann, it is with great reluctance that I acknowledge that you have left us.
I remember our walks to school along with several others in our class. You were always sweet & somewhat quiet & we kept our friendship along with the others through these MANY years. I am Most Sad & I will miss knowing you are just over the bridge from me.
RIP. Love, Sally
