Barbara Backman Obituary

BACKMAN, Barbara
Lorraine
Barbara joined her loving husband Erwin James Backman in heaven on January 22, 2008. She was predeceased by her sisters, Adrienne Penaluna and Dorothy Boothby, and brother, Richard Thomas. She is survived by her children Desiree Backman and her husband Aaron Peterich, Janice Welsch, Jim Backman and his wife Georgeena, and Patricia Meroney and her husband Patrick. She is also survived by her grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Born on January 4, 1928, Barbara was proud to be a third generation native Sacramentan. She was a homemaker extraordinaire, who raised four wonderful children with her husband. She enjoyed reading, cooking and crafts, and was always willing to try something new. Barbara warmly welcomed family and friends into her home, and there were always unique treats for them to enjoy. She was creative, wise, inspiring, and deeply spiritual. Barbara was also active in her community and a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. She was a generous soul who enjoyed knitting baby blankets and donated them to various charities. Barbara was always willing to lend a helping hand and believed that each of us has the power to make the world a better place. While Barbara will be deeply missed by all of her loved ones and many friends, she will never be far away. Services will be private. In-lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
