Barbara HEWITT Obituary

HEWITT, Barbara J.
Age 85, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born on 09/07/28 in Bandon, Oregon and raised in California, she was always a life-long learner with a sharp and curious mind graduating early from Oakland H.S. class of 1945. Her beloved husband, Wilber, parents, Chester and Rebecca Bingaman and her siblings Evalyn Hora and Paula Perini, preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Will (Jayne) Hewitt of Sacramento, Ca., Greg (Debbie) Rivers of Vacaville, Ca. and Kelly Hewitt of Redmond, Or. She is sadly missed by her seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, along with her twin sisters Darlene (Doug) Grimes and Marlene Enos, her brother-in-law's Moe Hora and James Hewitt, also sister-in-law Carole Hewitt and many beloved nieces and nephews. She started her career with the family's grocery business in Oakland, before moving on to the early start of Payless Drugs. For a time she also worked in the restaurant business, in Sacramento, with her sister Paula. Barbara and her husband also owned the J & J corner tavern in Oakland, afterwards they purchased a ranch in the Mojave Desert. Then they moved back to the Bay area, before living in the Willamette valley region of Oregon, were she found special neighbors on Hilltop & Farris Rd. We would like to offer a special thanks' to her friends, 'Pinky', Roberta, the Rebmann family and all the other's that watched over our Mother while living, in Scio, Oregon. However, during the last years of her life she returned to Sacramento, to live with her son and his wife, and to be closer to her grandchildren, along with her other family members and friends. Despite her long battle with lung disease, she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, game shows, and a sense of humor in her conversation, a good pull from time to time of the slot's, but most of all family gatherings. She will always be loved and hold a very special place in our hearts always. Private burial at Sunset Lawn Chapel of the Chimes, Sacramento. A family memorial reception will be held on May 18, 1:00 p.m. at the Dante Club, 2330 Fair Oaks Blvd., in Sacramento.
Remembrances also can be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
