Benjamin Beasley Obituary
Born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 11, 1946; passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2002, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marie; sons, Benjamin, Douglas, Duane and Jordan; daughters, Kelsie and Rachel; his parents, Benjamin and Annie Bell Beasley of Montgomery, Alabama; his brothers, Jackson (deceased), John and Alfred; his sisters, Rachel Ellis, Annie Dee Frazier, and Alma L. Thompson; his four grandchildren; his grandparents, Arlam and Johnnie Rebecca Carr; his uncles, Arlam Carr Jr., Robert I. Beasley, William A. Walters, Artis Jones and Hezekiah A. Beasley; his aunts, Alma Lee Smith, Mildred Tuck, Cornelia Robinson, Vivian Beasley, Emma Richardson and Robbie Beasley; and a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. An avid outdoorsman and a scholar of American Old West and Military history, he enjoyed fishing, making sculptures, collecting fossils, bicycling, writing and Jazz music. He served his country in the US Marine Corps before embarking on a career in public service. He was respected by everyone who met him, and loved by everyone who knew him. Open casket viewing Tues 4/16, between 1pm-8pm. Funeral service held Wed 11am at Thompson Funeral Home, 3601 5th Ave.

Ben was my supervisor for 10 years. I found him to be both an interesting and knowledgeable individual. Through the years we had numerous conversations covering a variety of topics. Although we did not always agree, we were able to talk freely with one another and respected each other’s point of view. I miss these conversations. I learned from Ben and I will always remember him as I truly enjoyed him.

Ben was my supervisor here at LMID until he retired. I consider it a privledge to have known and worked with him. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by all of us.

It was my privilege to be Ben's manager for most of ten years. I consider him a close friend. Ben was extremely proud of his family, and would regale us at work with stories of the latest accomplishments of various children, grandchildren, siblings, and other family members. Each time he would tell a story, we would tease him, asking how he ended up in the midst of such a sterling group. He would always laugh and say "I'm just doing the best I can."
That is a fitting epitaph for Ben; he always did the best he could, regardless the task. And to be honest, he would often goad me to be a little better, to be the best I could be. I'd like to think I'm a better person as a result.

Ben was an all-around great guy. Every morning, Ben would come by our cubicles & greet each of us with a "Good Morning" & ask how we were doing. He was always willing to lend an ear if we had a question or something we wanted to talk out.
I'll always remember the advice he gave me on building my own water garden & the encouragement/support he gave me when I had hesitations about leaving LMID.

I remember seeing Ben just about every morning in the employee breakroom as we washed our cups and got ready for another day of work. He was always a cordial person and upbeat - he will be missed!

Uncle Ben will be forever loved and missed, he's now resting peacfully and enjoying a reunion with my daddy(Jackson). It's okay to cry, but they have to be "Happy Tears",they're the only ones he'd accept!
