Benjamin RATHE Obituary

RATHE, Benjamin Landis
Jan. 23, 1992 - June 24, 2010
Benjamin Rathe, a young man with a heart of gold and a passion for life, made his mark in the lives of every person he met, but his own life was cut short when he unexpectedly passed away on June 24, 2010, at the age of 18. Ben will be missed by his mother, Polly; his father, David; his brother, Jake; paternal grandmother, Evelyn; maternal grandfather, Raymond; and aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends. His electric blue eyes and breathtaking smile will be remembered by everyone who was blessed enough to meet him. A recent graduate from Ponderosa High School, Ben began working as an intern at Teledyne, where a passion for engineering began to develop as he looked forward to starting his first semester at Folsom Lake College in the fall. Ben's life revolved around the endless hours he spent with both his friends and family. God's greatest gifts to him were his humble nature and empathetic soul, which he selflessly shared with anyone in need. Whether it was lending a smile and shoulder to a tearful friend, or being a rock solid support to fall back on after a bad day, there was no doubt in a single friend or family member's mind that Ben would be there for them. Although his life was short, the memories he shared with his friends and family, as well as the lessons he subtly taught us, will forever be remembered. Visitation Thursday, July 1, from 4 to 8 p.m., at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA 95841 (916) 732-2020. Memorial service Friday, July 2, at 1 p.m., at Green Valley Community Church, 3500 Missouri Flat Road, Placerville, CA 95667. In lieu of flowers, offerings appreciated to Benjamin Landis Rathe Memorial Fund, Account 113014989, El Dorado Savings Bank, 4060 Cameron Park Drive, Cameron Park, CA 95682.

The loss of Ben will be felt by all. My son has had many friends but Ben was special. I have often told my son to seek out and spend time with those that will make him a better person. Ben was one of those. We were blessed for having known him.

My son was in Ben's graduating class at Ponderosa as well. They were in Government class together. We were so saddened to hear of your loss. Ben and Miciah were not close friends, but our hearts still go out to Ben's family in this very tragic event. Imagine, just a young man attempting to go to work and then the unthinkable happens! Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We have been very affected by this news!

My son was in Ben's graduating class at Pondo. They were not friends but I want to tell your family that there are many people you do not know that are thinking and praying for your family. What a horrific tragedy and loss to the world, I am so sorry.
