Betty Miyagawa Obituary

Betty May (Yue) Miyagawa
January 9, 1939 - December 9, 2020
Santa Fe, New Mexico - On the evening of December 9, 2020, Betty passed away peacefully in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was 81 years old.
Betty was born on January 9,1939 in Sacramento, California. She was the youngest of three children of Frank and Bessie Yue.
Upon graduating from McClatchy High School in 1957, Betty married Ted Miyagawa. They immediately had three daughters. In 1964, the young family moved from Sacramento to Kailua, Oahu. Betty would raise her family here while working at Liberty House.
Betty returned to Sacramento, in 1976, as a single mother, to be near her friends and family. She began working at UPS in accounting in 1978 and remained there for nearly three decades. By 1980, Joe Hom was her constant companion. They finally tied the knot in 2008.
Betty had quite a zest for life and had a true appreciation for all that was beautiful in the world. She traveled extensively throughout North America, South America and Asia, collecting folk art from various countries along the way. Her other interests included playing mah-jong, line-dancing, gardening, and many other artistic endeavors. The last three years of her life were spent with her daughters in Santa Fe, New Mexico where Betty instantly took to the spicy food, breath-taking skies, and beautiful mountains of the Southwest.
Betty is preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Yue, father, Frank Yue, brother, Edwin Yue, and husband, Joe Hom. She is survived by her sister, Dora (Yue) Wong, her three daughters and her two grandchildren.
Her many friends and family will miss her quick wit, charming sense of humor, and generous spirit as well as her radiant smile. A celebration of Betty's life will be held in Sacramento at a later date. Memorial donations in her name may be made to: alzheimersresearchfoundation.com

I’ll always remember Betty with her million dollar smile and her kind spirit. She was one of those people you loved to be around. I was blessed to have her as my cousin. I share her loss with her beautiful daughters and grandchildren who were the light of her life.
