Bob Turner Obituary

TURNER, Bob ''Goose''
July 4, 1937 - July 25, 2009
Passed away in his Granite Bay home July 25, 2009 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. "Bobby Joe" grew up in Orofino, Idaho. He was a leading basketball scorer at Orofino High ('55), played for the All-American basketball team at Gonzaga University ('57) where he also earned his Business Administration Degree. He enjoyed singing in several Las Vegas Hotels for awhile, and eventually filled his military obligation ('62) by being assigned to the All-Army Basketball team. In '63-'65 he played for the Phillips 66ers, as a semi-pro. His insurance career--Sales/Personnel Management (Allstate and Farmers) framed the next 45 years of his life. In fact, Bob never did retire. His passion for golf allowed him the camaraderie of "some of the best friends a man could ask for". And, a few championships! Bob is survived by his mother, Kathryn Carey, his wife of 32 years Timmi, his 3 children Stacy, Kelli, and Bret, and his brothers Jim and Steve. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Edward, his stepfather Morris J. Carey, and his daughter Cara Jo. He will always be remembered for his phenomenal sense of humor and "bigger than life" personality. The kind of guy that made you feel good. Please join us to celebrate Bob's life on Thursday, August 6th at 1:00 p.m., Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 6365 Douglas Blvd., Granite Bay, CA 95746. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to The ALS Association in memory of his cousin, Nick Turner.

I echo Sterling's comments. The three of us enjoyed many rounds of golf together, and Bob and I played innumerable times at Indian Creek and elsewhere. He had one of the best senses of humor of anyone I've ever known and had genuine compassion for others. He will be greatly missed.

Bob was a standup guy. He was amiable, smart, and cared about others. I was fortunate to have known him on a personal and business level. He suffered so badly near the end. Glad he is in a better place now. I will miss him on multiple levels

I will always rremember Goose as an exciting basketball player when we were at OHS but in meeting him again at our big reunion a few years ago I was impressed with his vibrant personality and love for life and people. He will be truly missed by many.

I remember Bobby Joe from Orofino Elementary and High School days. He was always friendly and well-liked by all. I think he was the same as an adult. Mary Lou Williams Galloway
