Brian Wing Obituary

Brian Matthew Wing, born September 22, 1977 in Sacramento, CA, passed away August 16, 2017 in Redmond, OR. Survived by his loving wife Valerie Wing and daughter Autumn Wing; father Larry Wing and wife Pam; mother Jill Damerow and husband Chuck; sister Lindsay Wing and brothers Robert Weston III and Brian Weston; and many other extended family and friends. Brian was a Research Forester with the U.S. Forest Service; having earned an A.A. Degree in Forestry from Sierra College in Rocklin, CA where he earned Forestry Student of the Year honors; a B.S. degree in Forestry from Humboldt State University in Arcata, CA where he captained a team that won a SAF National Quiz Bowl Championship; and a PhD in Forestry Engineering from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Or. Brian was a very special person with many talents and interests. He had a special wit and sense of humor that kept everyone laughing when he was around. He was an excellent athlete, particularly in baseball and golf. He was very handy, constantly working on projects and making improvements on the ranch in Redmond. He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and enjoyed sharing that with his family and friends. But more importantly, he was a very loving man with a special, always positive outlook on life in every way, touching profoundly all of us who knew him as family, colleagues, and friends. He was a deeply religious man, having been baptized at an early age and carried Jesus' love in his heart throughout all his days, loving and affirming all who came into his life. To call Brian a special man is simply not enough, for he was a one in a million soul who made a remarkably positive impact to this world during his life. He will be cherished and loved forever by his family and friends. May he forever rest in peace with the Lord. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make donations to Autumn's education fund. Heartfelt wishes for peace to Brian's family, friends and colleagues in this difficult time. I knew Brian through the NorCal SAF Executive Committee, where he the very bright up-and-coming kid who I though was and would be a credit to the profession. It is a heartache to know that he has passed. Condolences, peace, and patience to those who survive his untimely passing.

Brian was one of my very first friends in Jr. High when I moved to Carmichael. I have very fond memories of the fun we had on Meadowvista Dr. I enjoyed seeing Brian and catching up at our 20 year class reunion a few years back. He was a very special person to his family, friends, and to all who loved him. I will be praying for his wife, daughter, and extended family during this difficult time.

Brian was such a special person. He was so kind, positive and very smart. My first memories of Brian was the day he first came to the Deschutes NF and was given a cubicle in our little Contracting section. Who was this stranger? Well this stranger turned out to be very special. Once you met Brian it was like you had a friend for life. I remember the talks he would have with us about his farm, but most importantly how much he loved his family. Brian, your jovial smile and warmth will be missed.

Brian was the salt of the earth. He was truly a bright star! He will be missed by so many. Just recently I had a chance to hang out with him and others from the FS Regional Office and we had a great time, with many laughs. His spirit is living on in all of us. My thoughts are with you in this very tough time. Here is a poem that I read yesterday and thought of those that are grieving: "in our own ways we all break. it is okay to hold your heart outside of your body for days. months. years at a time." In time you will find peace. May the love of family and friends carry you through your grief.
