Calvin PHILLIPS Obituary

PHILLIPS, Calvin J.
Born Aug. 1, 1927, in Eureka, California, and passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, Sept. 23, 2012 at his home in Sacramento, surrounded by his children. Loving husband of Lois Phillips (Larson), who preceded him in death in 2009. He will be greatly missed by his children, Cathy Lybeck (Ken), Cory Jensen, and Brian Phillips (Terry) as well as his grandchildren, Kim Nava (Mark), Stacey Smith (Jeremy), Kelly Jensen, Erica Garat (Jason), Katie Phillips, Robert Limon (Boupha) and Alan Coleman (Alissa), numerous nieces and nephews and several great-grandchildren. Upon returning from the war, he married his sweetheart Lois Larson and resided in Eureka and eventually Fortuna, where they raised their three beloved children. He worked for Pacific Bell as an engineer for 34 years. In retirement, Cal and Lois traveled throughout the United States as well as enjoying many cruises. He was an avid San Francisco Giants, Oakland As and Sacramento River Cats fan and enjoyed hunting, diving and golfing. He worked for Hertz Car Rental for the last several years, where he greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of his coworkers. Calvin was a member of the Humboldt Masonic Lodge #79, VFW and SIRS.

Memorial services will be held at noon, Saturday, Sept. 29 at Sanders Funeral Home in Eureka. Remembrances may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.

I have many good memories of Cal when we worked together for Pac. Bell. My condolences to his family. He was a great guy.

Cal will be missed as long as we will live. He was so much to us, kind of a family guide as to how we should live our lives. Full of fun, something to do all the time, our family loved it when he called with a picnic or trip in the works. He kept life interesting. He was also most generous. You could tell when he was teasing as he had that twinkle in his eye. Our family has a large hole in it now, with the passing of Lois and now Cal. We are happy they are reunited.

Cal was my neighbor & my friend. He was a golfing buddy & a masonic brother to my husband. He will be remembered for his kindness, helpfulness, & his good, caring heart.
Rest now in the loving arms of God, Cal. Your friendship will be ever treasured.

My Grandpa Cal, or Papa as he was known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was the best kind of man in every way. I miss him more than words can say, but we can all take comfort in knowing he and Grandma Lois are probably in the middle of a card game in heaven. I love you Papa.
