Carl Zingale Obituary

Carl 'CJ' Zingale
December 21, 1999 - February 16, 2023
Sacramento, California - Carl 'CJ' Joseph Zingale December 21, 1999 - February 16, 2023 Sacramento, California - Carl 'CJ' Zingale left his worldly cares behind in Los Angeles on February 16, 2023. Carl was 23.
Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on the shortest day of the year, Carl was determined to make every hour an adventure. In his brief life, he proved to be a fearless ocean junior life guard, frequent snow boarder, serious skate boarder, sketch artist and gifted writer. He attended LA Film School for two years, where his talent and potential for screenwriting was recognized. He lived with family in Sacramento, Santa Cruz, San Francisco, and Fiddletown, and independently in Green Bay, Chicago, San Juan, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles. He liked Vic's ice cream in the summer, Palm Springs and Lake Tahoe in winter, and 28th & B Street Skate Park all year round. He saw Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Belize, Mexico, Guatemala, The Dominican Republic, Havana and Moscow. He worked at Célestin's, Joe's Crabshack, CVS, a Burger King in San Juan, and Dodger Stadium. He attended Crocker Riverside Elementary, Camelia Waldorf and McClatchy High. Along the way, he fell in love.
Carl's friends have called him, "frenetic and spiritual," an "uncommon spirit," a "bright spark," "energetic to the point of exhausting," and "a powerful light, blinding at times." Another said, "23 years is a short time for an ordinary life, but for a non-stop performance art exhibit like Carl, it was a good run." Since the age of four, Carl described himself as "BIG ALIVE."
One friend felt this poem 'If I wanted a Boat' by Mary Oliver might capture Carl's approach to life:
I would want a boat... that bounded hard on the waves, that didn't know starboard from port and wouldn't learn... that leaped into the spray...Yes, by the heavens... I would want a boat I couldn't steer.
Carl is preceded by his beloved grandparents Anita Kelly Zingale & Carl Francisco Zingale, and survived, mourned and celebrated by family members Linck Zingale, Chuck Supple & Daniel Zingale, Shannon Hart, Dr. Charles Supple, Tom Zingale, Kate Hamilton & John May, Josephine & Wally Tice, John Supple & Carrie Spiegel, Angie, Joe, Carl & Dan Compton, Erin, Oscar, Donovan & Kevin Rivera, Emma Pauley, April Supple, Dominic Supple, Sally Hamilton, Tom, Shauna & Remy Hamilton, Charles Hamilton, Malia, Phil & Koa Knezevich, Lani Tice, David, April, Gabrielle, Abigail, Sophia & Amelia Bachman, Joseph Linck III, Kathy and Stephanie Baxter, the extended families of Anita Kelly Zingale & Carl Francisco Zingale and by Nancy Beall, Susan Stroud, Angela Barlow, Tim Hamilton, and Oscar Reyes.
In lieu of flowers, please offer kindness, prayers and compassion for those we encounter living on the street.

Dear Daniel,
To experience parenthood is one of life's greatest virtues. You and Chuck were blessed to have this gift via your son.
Though your grief continues, know and lean on your faith that it was in God's plan. Life is about pain and pleasure and advocating for the helpless, the illerate, and voiceless among us.

May God bless you in your grief and sorrow in the loss of your son during this holy season.

I had the privilege of being the first in the family to meet Baby Carl. I was in Sacramento for work just after Chuck returned with that beautiful boy. I am heartbroken for everyone in his life. May his memory be a blessing.

Daniel, we didn't know each other well, but in managing the TCE Sac conference center, I really felt your stamp of inclusiveness. Your son Carl must have been surrounded by that warmth in his adventurous life. Beautiful picture of his head in the clouds. My heart goes out to you.

Daniel, Chuck, and family: Though I did not know CJ myself, I am so terribly sorry to hear about his passing. What a full life he lived in his time here, anchored by your love for him. I can't imagine what you all are going through, but please know that my thoughts are with you, along with my hopes that you find some solace in the strength, love, and compassion of those surrounding you.

The unexpected loss of a child is heart wrenching. Take comfort in knowing you gave Carl a better life than where his early destiny was directing him by providing him a loving home. Reflect upon all your good memories together to celebrate his life and lock Carl into your heart.

The three of you are in our thoughts.

With sincerest condolences,
Karen & Gary
