Carroll Marlene McArthur

McArthur, Carroll Marlene (Evjen) Carroll passed away peacefully in her sleep early Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the age of 83. She was born May 17, 1932 to Elmer and EvaBelle Evjen in Carlisle, Minnesota. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Charles McArthur, and children Barbara Hejtmanek (George), Chuck McArthur (Dana), and Catherine Godwin (Pat). She was a beloved grandmother to seven grandchildren: Tom Gruelle (Lyndz), Caitlin Vansteel (Russ), John Gruelle, Erin Rystad (Greg), Emily Rochford, Andrew McArthur, and Mary Rochford. She also had five step-grandchildren: Kurt Godwin, Kelly Plank (Tim), Jen Hejtmanek (Tom), Steven Hejtmanek (Melissa) and Rory Hejtmanek. Carroll had eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Sackett and Marjorie Connell, and many nieces and nephews. Carroll grew up in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where she was a hometown beauty queen, representing her area in the Miss Minnesota pageant. She spent most of her adult life in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she and her husband Mac raised their family. She was a homemaker, and an enthusiastic and supportive mother. She volunteered over the years as a Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout leader, and activity helper at a skilled nursing facility. She was a good cook, especially enjoyed baking, and loved to eat out. Carroll had a love of art and took courses in painting and art history. She traveled to many corners of the world and always enjoyed exploring art museums, churches and historical sites. Her primary focus was always on family. She was a devoted lifelong Christian, had a great sense of humor, and was a gentle, kind and generous person. There will be a Memorial Service for Carroll at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Journey Church, 450 Blue Ravine Road, Folsom, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Carroll's name may be given to El Dorado County NAMI.
