Charles Becker Obituary

Charlie Becker grew up in Marysville CA, loving sports and the outdoors, and enticing others to do the same. In high school he played football, basketball and baseball before moving to Cal Berkeley where he played baseball, held a record for best win-loss pitching percentage and was a member of the 1957 NCAA championship team. He taught at Fern Bacon Jr. High & C.K. McClatchy HS where he was able to instill the love of science and sport in students for more than 35 years. His fondness for bowling was heightened when in 1960 he met Celia, his wife-to-be on a bowling blind date; their love for each other and bowling remained strong until his passing. Charlie was an avid fly fisherman and this passion led him, his family and friends to experience the great outdoors through camping and fishing adventures in the Pacific Northwest. Charlie is survived by Celia, his wife of 56 years, his two daughters, Charlene Banard, husband Chris, and Carol Herbst, nephew Zeb Becker, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends are welcome to a celebration of his life on Friday, Dec 16th at 2 pm, East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park & Mortuary, 9189 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove, CA 95624. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Alzhemer's Aid Society (alzaid.org).

I'm sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. We competed on the high school diamond (he had a wicked curve ball) and were later classmates at Cal, occasionally carpooling on trips home.
