Dr. Charles R. Kesmodel, Jr., M.D.
April 5, 1934 - August 26, 2025
Sacramento, California - Dr. Charles R. Kesmodel, Jr., M.D., age 91, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, in Sacramento, California. Born and raised in Towson, Maryland, on April 5, 1934, he went on to attend Loyola University Maryland and fulfilled his dream of becoming a physician. Following medical school, he proudly served his country as a Captain in the Army National Guard, stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia.
In the mid-1960s, Dr. Kesmodel relocated with his young family to Sacramento, California, where he began his lifelong career as a pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente. He dedicated decades of service to caring for Sacramento's children and families, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Charlie was an avid supporter of the Baltimore Orioles and later a devoted San Francisco Giants fan - "Go Black & Orange!" His love of the game reflected his appreciation for tradition, competition, and community. He shared that love directly with his family, coaching all four of his sons in Little League baseball and instilling in them lessons of teamwork, perseverance, and joy. Beyond the ballpark, Charles was a connoisseur of fine wine and made annual trips to France, where he delighted in exploring the culture and countryside.
Dr. Kesmodel also held a deep passion for horse racing. As the proud owner of Bye Bye Arnie, a pacing filly who set numerous track records at Cal Expo and across California's racing circuit, he celebrated the thrill of the sport and the bonds forged along the way.
A devoted Catholic, Dr. Kesmodel's faith was central to his life. He now joins his beloved parents, Mary Ursula and Charles Sr., as well as his brother Martin, in eternal rest. Chuck is survived by his four sons David (Heather), Steven, Michael (Lana), and Mark, along with nine cherished grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of warmth, humor, and love.
Dr. Kesmodel will be remembered for his kindness, adventurous spirit, and lifelong devotion - to family, to faith, and to the many pursuits that filled his days with purpose.
Service will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Monday, October 27th at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow, in lieu of flowers please donate to your preferred pediatric charity.
