Concepcion Rosas Obituary
ROSAS, Concepcion B.
It is with a sense of deep gratitude tempered by sadness that we announce the death of our beloved matriarch, Concepcion B. Rosas, known to all as Connie. She was born in Coleman, Texas on November 3, 1909 and died in Sacramento on January 22, 2006. Her life encompassed momentous changes in technology. She marveled at the fact that she had traveled both by horse-drawn wagon from Texas to Oklahoma on a two month trek as a little girl, and traveled in recent years by jet plane. Connie witnessed many significant events in her time upon this earth. Now, she is at peace in Heaven. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma, moving to Tulare, California in 1934 with her family. In 1944, she relocated to the Bay Area in search of a better life for her family. During World War II, Connie worked at Kaiser Shipyard in Richmond as a welder. She was the epitome of "Rosie the Riveter". After the war years she worked in the food industry until her retirement. Connie lived in Oakland and San Leandro until 1972 when she retired and came to Sacramento. She was a compassionate, generous and caring woman, devoted to her family and friends. She had a rare talent for making friends easily, with her ever cheerful and positive demeanor. She remained an enthusiastic learner and maintained her very strong political convictions all her life. She never failed to vote and encouraged all to vote as well. This was a remarkable woman. She had a real spark, and was a rare jewel whose beauty and brilliance will continue to shine for all those left behind. Connie was predeceased by her loving husband, Isidro H. Rosas, her dear son, Ismael G. Rosas, her beloved grandson Donald William Cooper and all thirteen of her siblings. She is survived by her devoted daughters: Helen R. Mares, Sonya R. Cooper, and Sonya's husband Donald K. Cooper. Also surviving her are her beloved grandchildren, Connie Gianandrea, Yvonne Duvall, Patricia Wuench, Marshall Mares, Lisa Cooper, Cindy Free, Peggy Warswick, Stephen Cooper, and his wife Charmaine and eight great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and another three on the way. She leaves many dear nieces and nephews behind, too. We will all miss her very much. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 30, 2006, at 12:00 pm at Presentation Church, Norris and Robertson Avenues in Sacramento. Memorials preferred to: Mustard Seed School, 1321 North C Sacramento 95814, or Wellspring Women's Center, P.O. Box 5728 Sacramento, 95817-9728.
