Craig ESTES Obituary


ESTES, Craig Thomas

69, Passed away on January 7, 2014 in Providence, RI. He had lived in the Sacramento area for over 40 years and was the son of the late Homer and Alice (Sills) Estes. Craig had been married to his loving wife Karin (Degnan) Estes for 44 years. He will be missed by his wife Karin, his daughters and sons-in-law Stephanie Estes Saccoccio and John Saccoccio of Warwick, RI, and Tracy Estes Gemme and Douglas Gemme of Coventry, RI, and grandson Andrew James Gemme.

Craig served in the Seabees during the Vietnam War. He graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona, CA in 1972 with a degree in Urban Design and obtained a Masters in Community Planning from the University of Rhode Island in 1976. He was an urban designer and city planner who designed many neighborhoods and communities in California, Arizona, Nevada, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia. He worked as a planner with numerous engineering firms in Sacramento and was a partner in Murray Smith and Associates and The Spink Corporation before opening his own firm, Estes Plans. After retiring from planning, he wrote several murder mystery novels.

His Memorial Service was held Monday, January 13, 2014 in Scituate, RI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rhode Island Food Bank, (200 Niantic Ave, Providence, RI 02907) and St Jude Children's Research Hospital (PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101).
