Daniel Ransom Obituary

Daniel James Ransom

January 7, 1976 - July 27, 2024

Marysville, California - Dan Ransom, an IT Director for Application Development at U.C. Davis passed away unexpectedly on July 27th after a brief illness. He was 48 years old. Dan was a remarkable leader, mentor, and colleague and his contributions to the school and university were extensive. In his role as IT Director, Dan's individual and team contributions are too numerous to share here. Suffice to say that the SVM-IT team (and the SVM as a whole) benefited every day from his professional, thoughtful, organized, patient, creative, and mission-focused approach. Dan regularly sought out opportunities to contribute to campus groups including the Management Skills Assessment Program and Staff Assembly even acting as Chair of that group for 2023-2024.

The impact of his mentorship cannot be overstated, and Dan exemplified this through his outstanding contributions in fostering growth, development, and success among his mentees. Dan's thoughtfulness, wisdom, and dedication to nurturing others shine through not only in his mentorship but also in his leadership within the unit and broader campus community. By consistently delivering excellent results, creating welcoming environments, and prioritizing the growth of his team members, Dan set a remarkable example of leadership and collegiality. Dan's commitment to continuous learning and his efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion further demonstrated his dedication to creating a positive and supportive workplace culture.

Dan was an extremely loving and caring husband, father, son, and brother to all of his family. He will be greatly missed. Dan is survived by his wife Judy and their two children, Zachary and Julian as well as his mother, eight siblings, two foster siblings, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at the Wheatland, California Community Center beginning at 11 a.m. August 17th.

It is especially tragic to lose a good person at a young age and more so one upon which others depended. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and especially, his mother, Donna.
