David Brace Obituary

BRACE, DAVID DUANE
Beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, loyal friend and devoted boyfriend, lost his battle with cancer November 20. Born December 25, 1970 in Sacramento, David attended Valley High School, graduated cum laude from CSU Sacramento and, after receiving a full fellowship and bypassing the Master's degree program, earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stanford University in 2001. With his extraordinary command of mathematics, chemical values and proficiency with laser technology, he became an outstanding research scientist for Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale. David is survived by his mother, Carol Thompson and her husband Michael; father, Danny D. Brace and his wife Diana; soul mate Holly Mills; two sisters, Christina and Jennifer Brace; grandparents, Vernon and Beryl Cargill; grandmother, Eleanor Brace; two nephews, Christopher Higuera and Cody Blackburn; a large loving family and supportive friends. David had a brilliant mind and a big heart. He was easy-going, pragmatic, adventurous and determined. As a kid, he studied martial arts and became fascinated by science fiction with the advent of Star Wars, Dungeons & Dragons and Atari. David continued to enjoy science fiction novels, movies and computer games well into his adulthood, frequently playing online strategy games with his best friend Joe Moriguchi. David liked to exercise his mind and his body. When he wasn't watching the History Channel or debating politics, he was probably pumping iron at the gym. He also had a love of music and a passion for dancing. Though he didn't get the opportunity to travel the world, David said his all-time favorite experience was the trip he and Holly took to Mazatlan, Mexico in 2002. David, we are so blessed to have had you in our lives. Your memory will remain forever in our hearts. Until we see you again, may God rest your soul. Friends and family are invited to attend services Wednesday, November 26 at 2 p.m. at South East Lawn Memorial Park, 9189 East Stockton Boulevard in Elk Grove. A vigil will be held at the chapel Monday and Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David's memory to the American Cancer Society/Pancreatic Cancer Research.

My Dearest David,

So restless at night, when I dream of you

I open my eyes, hoping it came true.

It didn’t again so with tears in my eyes

I hold my pillow to soften the cries.

But distance means nothing in love that’s true

And though I long for one touch from you,

I’ll squeeze that pillow while we’re apart,

You hold me too, you hold my heart.

No one has ever made me feel so complete,

My whole life was lived just so we could meet.

I’ll dream of you now, on into the night,

Knowing that one day you’ll be holding me tight.

My dreams will come true one day, I know,

Just remember we are holding each other close in our hearts.

Love,

Holly

Dear Family of David Brace,

I knew David when he worked at Breuners on Mack Road many years ago. He was a hard worker and very kind young man. I was shocked to see that he had passed away at such a young age. Hardly ever do we know how people who pass through our lives end up. You must be very proud of all his accomplishments. I have fond memories of David and I send my most heart felt sympathy to you all.

David,

I did not have a chance to see you since you were sick but the memories I have of you are all good. You were a wonderful brother to Jenn and "surrogate" big brother to me as we all grew up together. Always loving a good laugh, you also showed your concern for people and you were so intelligent. This world definitely has a void without you, but you'll always be remembered as the wonderful person you were.

Dear Danny:

We know there are no words to express the sorrow at the loss of someone so young and so special. Our hearts are with you at this time and we know you will find strength in the beautiful memories you have of your son.

We are very sorry that we cannot attend the service and express our deepest sympathies in person. Unfortunately, we too are dealing with a loss of a loved one. We are traveling back home to Mexico because of my aunt's passing today. She too was very special to me during my childhood in Mexico. When Albert and Gina contacted me in Mexico to share with me your loss, I flew home to be here. Upon my arrival, I was given the news of my aunt's passing. When we return we will make a point of contacting you so we can express in person our sorrow at your loss.

Love,

Bella

My dearest big brother,

I miss you already. I can't believe you were taken from us so quickly. It's not fair. But I have to remember how lucky I am to be your little sister. I always looked up to you - you made it cool to be smart! You teased me relentlessly as a kid, but you were always there for me when I needed your help. You taught me how to do trig, play blackjack and, more importantly, showed me how to be humble.

I love you and I will never, ever forget you.
