David Kennedy Obituary

Our wonderful husband, father, pop-pop, son, brother, uncle and friend, age 60, passed away at home, from metastatic pancreatic cancer on March 30, 2017. David was born in Burlingame, CA and lived in Millbrae until his graduation from Capuchino High School in 1974 (where he was nowhere near the top of his class as he would tell you). David was very active in Boy Scout Troop 335, earning his Eagle Scout badge in 1972. With the Scouts, he went on numerous camping trips, including the Sierra Trek, a 16 day, 70 mile backpacking adventure in the Emigrant Basin Wilderness in the Sierras. David had a lifelong love of hiking, camping, canoeing and spending time outdoors. One of his most memorable backpacking trips involved hiking to Thousand Island Lake in the Ansel Adams Wilderness and climbing Banner Peak. He was also very active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) at the Community United Methodist Church in Millbrae. David continued his education at CSU Chico, graduating with a BS degree in Business, in 1981. He began his career at Xerox and eventually moved into the Medical Sales field. He received his 20 year pin from W.L. Gore this past February. David had a very strong work ethic and was highly respected by his coworkers and physicians. While in college, he joined the CSU Chico Ski Club. This past January, he celebrated 35 years of ski trips (although it was by Skype this year). He only missed a trip or two in all those years and would start having "ski dreams" in August! David's greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He and Shawn were married September 23, 1989, living most of their lives in Elk Grove where they raised Connor and Kira. He was so proud of his children. He spent many years coaching Kira's soccer team, skiing with Connor and teaching them fiscal responsibility. He was always an active father in their lives. The family was also fortunate to have our co-op family. This group of friends, originally established as a babysitting group, has been part of our lives for 25 years. He was passionate about his Racko games with "the boys", annual "guys trips", golfing, fishing, playing poker, general good times and the many social activities that occurred weekly with this group of amazing friends. David kept his friends close to his heart - from childhood, to college and beyond - he was always planning a get together with one of his dear groups. David was also a master trophy maker; if you were lucky enough to get one from him, you were truly blessed. He was a generous man, blessed with a heart of gold and genuinely interested in everyone he met. He will be dearly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. David is survived by the light of his life, his wife Shawn; son Connor and daughter Kira (Anthony); granddaughter Isabella; mother Kathleen (Larry); brothers Steven (Elise) and Brian (Vivian); sister Karen (Clifford); many nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, cousins and an amazing number of friends he made family. He was preceded in death by his father David, his uncle Douglas, his father-in-law Finis, mother-in-law Mary and brother-in-law Finis. A Celebration of Life, followed by a reception, will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11:00 am at The Falls Event Center Elk Grove, 8280 Elk Grove Blvd., CA. Aloha attire is requested. Dear Shawn and family,
I got your Christmas card and quickly realized something was terribly wrong. I am so sorry for your loss. David and I lived arcoss the street from each other in college and he was known to be a cookie monster, sneaking into our house and stealing the freshly baked cookies. he was always so much fun. I was so happy to run into him in Chico a few years back. He was a great guy and will be missed. Leslie (Wolff) Gungl and husband Stan

Dear Kennedy Family,

I worked with Dave at Xerox and he was one heck of a salesman and a true gentleman. He will be missed by many.
