David Mendez Obituary

David Nelson Mendez passed away suddenly in Santa Maria, California. He was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona, and attended Loretto Catholic School. After he graduated from Boy's Town High School in Omaha, Nebraska, he served in the U.S. Army. He then was employed as a mechanic by United Airlines, in San Francisco, for 34 years where he was well respected and had many good friends. David was preceded in death by his parents, Florentino and Mary Nelson Mendez, siblings Virginia Mendez Acosta, Jane Mendez Klagge, Ruben Mendez, and his two sons David II (Cuco) and Christopher (Kipper). He is survived by his brother Victor, of Tucson, sisters, Amelia, Barbara, and Norma of Sacramento CA, his former wife Margaret, of Independence, Missouri, stepchildren Vincent Tschirhart and Valerie Tschirhart-Borrego, and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Dorene, who cared for him, and his beloved grandchildren, Amber, Christina, and David. He will be especially missed by his favorite little buddy, great grandson, Diego, and his grandson Carlos, who was a great help to him. A memorial service is planned at a later date.

Grandpa, I dream about you still being here everytime I see a picture of you I can't help but cry. We are trying to stay strong but it's so hard. It's been almost 4 months since I have been able to hug you and I can't even go and visit you and it's painful everytime I drive by the cemetery off of stowell I can hear you in my head because you would always joke around and say send me to stowell, but your not there and we don't have your ashes. It's so hard to say goodbye and I don't know if I will ever be able to.

Love, Family, Kindness are the words that fill my heart as these qualities poured out of the man that lived by their values above all others. David has been my dear friend and a mentor in life, He is Grandpa, I am forced to smile even as the tears run down my face, because that's what he would have wanted, to make people smile and kids laugh. I have had the pleasure of spending almost every day with him for the last several years. I was always treated as a member of his family in his home, for years now. My heart breaks for all of those who knew him and will miss him. He played the key role for holding us all together as a family unit and was also able to be a good friend and neighbor to others in need. As I sit here alone I take comfort in my memories of him and I am grateful for the loving times I had with Dorene, Santiago, Carlos, David III, Christina, and Amber who love him and care for him as I do. He always wanted his family close by and loved being home with them. He has always been very protective of his family. He was a great man that spoke his mind and stood his ground. It is especially hard for me to say goodbye, because I never had another man to really talk to who was open to listen, but we had this connection. Maybe our similar pasts sparked our friendship into a great relationship for me and those he shared his life with. I love you!

This picture is when I first met David, he came to Kansas City , Mo.. He was best friends with my brother Robert Dean they graduated from Boys Town , He was a beautiful person I had the biggest crush on him for years, years latter we met again I fell in love with him. We had two sons David and Christopher , he loved his sons . We had a wanderful marrisge for 21 years, I have loved him through the years and will miss him more than ever. The last time I talked to him he was so proud of his little buddy Santiago. And it reminded me how he was with his sons. David was a loving father and was devastaded by his sons death. I will miss him so much . he will be with his sons in heaven. God take care of all my guys.

I am his step daughter, but, he is my Dad. He was always there for me. He cared and supported me mentally and financially growing up. He was always working for his family. He taught me how to be a better person by giving me rules and responsibilities. I am thankful for having his guidance. I know he deeply loved my little brothers, they were his World. They are reunited in Heaven. I know he spent the last 10 years loving his grandchildren and great grandchildren, my brother Cuco's family. His family. They became his World. I know he will greatly missed. And in the hearts of many forever. RIP DAD.

My Uncle David was so much to so many he left behind. He spent his many years at United Air Lines in the engine shop and always turned the place upside down with his great sense of humor and well know for his hot Chile eating habits on everything he ate except maybe his ice cream although he may have considered it. Still working in his shop myself have others still asking for him long after his retirement. I am happy to know he lived his last years after retirement with his grandchildren he loved the most and the support and care of his Daughter in-law.

I met Grandpa a few years ago and I know that he was a lovely person. Im calling him Grandpa because thats the word he wanted people him. I met him because I was his daughter in laws coworker. His love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren could be seen everyday. They meant so much to him and for his grandchildren and great grandchildren he meant the world to them. Especially his great grandchild Diego, they were both each others best friends. Their grandpa- great grandchild love was genuine. Since he passed away his family has been suffering emotionally from their loss and for all the issues they've been having. Im sure that wherever Grandpa is (Heaven) Im sure he is praying for his family and feels sorry for the issues they've been going through. We miss you Grandpa.

This man made a difference for his grandkids and great grandkids. When advice was needed or someone to listen David was always there for them. Those grandchildren are a testimony of what the influence of a grandpa can have on his grandkids. David loved his grandkids and great grandkids so much he poured his heart and soul into them.
