Elk Grove, California - With heavy hearts we announce the passing of David Roy Roberts at age 85. Dave passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was born in Akron, Ohio, and moved to the Sacramento area as a child. Dave graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School and earned his teaching credentials at Sacramento State University, leading to a fulfilling career as a history teacher at Valley High School. He also coached football and track at both Valley High School and Elk Grove High School.
Dave was a long-time resident of the greater Sacramento area, known for his kind heart, wisdom, dedication to his family, his community, and rose gardens. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrtis and Park; his sister Betty; and his son Eric. Dave is survived by his devoted wife, Carol, of 62 years; his son Scott; nephew Ed, niece Kathy, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Dave's life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Centennial United Methodist Church in Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to one of the following organizations: Florin United Methodist Church, Centennial United Methodist Church, The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, or the Elk Grove Animal Shelter.

Dave always greeted me with a smile and kindness. Dave and Carol were apart of our lives for years and he will be dearly missed. God has called an earthly angel home to be with him. Rest in peace my friend.
