Denise, it’s been almost 2 years since you left us ... today is Thanksgiving Day. A day to speak of the things you are grateful for. I’m grateful to have shared my childhood with you, Janet and your family.
Such simple things we shared. A Saturday walk, the back way, to Mayfair market for french fries with ketchup. A walk with wagons in tow down to the creek. Big cardboard boxes hauled home from the dumpsters behind Thrifty’s to make connected cardboard forts from. (Why did our mother’s allow us sharp implements to cut out doors and windows? Were they crazy?)
Tree climbing. Doll playing. Tea parties. Board games. Your Dad’s much loved Giant’s games on the radio. Your mom’s delicious refrigerated bowl of cucumbers & red onions in red wine vinegar with sugar. (1st place I ever ate that at was your house - I was hooked). We shared hours and hours together. Our mom’s always had eyes on us. One hot summer day, I saw that lawn water was running full in the street gutters. I was thirsty. As I bent down to drink from the cool, fresh running water, this booming voice quaked, “Becky, don’t you dare drink out of that dirty gutter! I’m phoning your mother right this minute!” Man our folks had eagle eyes. And any child on that street was “their” child to watch after. How lucky we were to have so many mom’s care for us in the best way.
We grew up. We survived our childhood’s with no major mishaps and very few scars. We got through school. We moved out. We moved on. We no longer shared the same street. We married. You had a son. We didn’t see each other often but when we crossed paths, it was like coming home. We would happily catch each other up on the goings on. Some connections are hard to break. Ours has only temporarily been suspended. Keep the tea hot and a seat warm, please. Someday we will have a lot of catching up to do. Love you my friend❤

Denise, from Heaven, hear this ... you were the best childhood friend I could ask for. So many hours spent together as kids, so many memories that I will always have. You taught me to share my childhood possessions and to be happy to do so. Our homes were inter exchangeable. Your mom treated me as if I were one of her kids. Our parents were young then and so were we. I miss your laugh. Gratefully, I can still hear it. You left us too soon. Thank you for all you gave to me. I wish you eternal peace. Know that you were and still are, loved by many.
@ Rhonda - I will let Janet know to call you.
