Don Sato Obituary

SATO, Don (Sanji)
Born and passed away
in Sacramento:
Dec 8, 1926-Apr 12, 2005

Many adventures in between. He learned to surf whitewater and roll his kayak when he was seventy-three. He found joy in the simple things: gardening; kayaking; and playing with his grandson. With a ready smile and big heart, he was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a WWII veteran. He was an educator in Alaska working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He also taught for the Folsom Cordova Unified and Rio Linda Union School Districts before becoming a consultant for the Calif. Division of Early Childhood Education. He was a member of the Folsom Lions Club. He was a volunteer for the Calif. Youth Authority, the Sac County Sheriffs Dept and an avid river clean-up volunteer. He was a devoted father, husband and best friend. He is survived by his wife Trudy, son Steve, daughter Cindy Pfiefer (George), grandson Alex, seven siblings and many nieces and nephews. Thank you dear friends for your well-wishes and prayers as dad begins his next big adventure. All friends and family are invited to an outdoor memorial at Hagan Park at the end of Chase Dr. in Rancho Cordova on Apr. 17, at 4:00 PM. Dress casually. Remembrances may be made to: Mercy Hospice, 3400 Data Dr. Rancho Cordova, CA 95670, The American River Parkway Foundation, PO Box 188437 Sac, CA 95818, or Mayhew Community Baptist Church, 3401 Routier Rd., Sac, CA 95827.

All of our prayers go to the Sato family. Don was a good fisherman, a great poker player and one of the finest examples of a loving, commited parent I have ever met. His family will remain strong because of the values he left them. His community is a better place to live because of his efforts. And, on a more personal note, I am a better father because of his example.

Cindy, George and Alex,

I was so sorry to hear of Don's death. He was a warm, loving man, father and grandfather and will be missed very much.

To Cindy and George

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your father.

All my heartfelt condolences are with you.

Although I didn't know him, he sounds like an extraordinary man.

Men like your father made this country and our society strong and free. A good man that loved his family and life and stood up for what he believed in.

He will be sorely missed, but the warmth of his love and the memories of his life will always endure and comfort you as he ventures on his final journey.

Sincerely,

Joanie Billings

My deepest sympathies to the entire Sato and Pfiefer family during this especially sad time. Don was such a sweet man. It’s comforting to know he’s now in a better place, his next journey is just beginning, and with his special spirit I’m sure it will be terrific! He’s still very much with us in our hearts and always will be. The prettiest tree in my yard, a Japanese Maple that I received from Don and Trudy years ago, is like my own living memorial. I’ll miss “Dad” too but will never forget his bright smile and the twinkle in his eye.
