Duke Wong Obituary

April 8, 1957 - April 9, 2010Duke Wong, age 53, beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed away too soon due to cancer. Duke was a Sacramento native who attended Kennedy High School (class of 1975). He graduated from UC Davis as a mechanical engineer and went on to a 30-year career at Aerojet, where he was nationally recognized as a true "rocket scientist". He leaves behind his wife, Cindy Castronovo, and his sons, Ryan and Jonathan, who were his pride and joy. Also survived by three younger brothers Gene, Young and Hank. Duke was devoted to his family and especially enjoyed coaching his sons' soccer teams. He loved the outdoors, from his many camping trips with friends and family, to his quiet summer evenings in the backyard. Duke was a "collector" of almost everything, but his latest passion for fine wines was shared and appreciated by all who knew him. He was accepting of everyone he met over his lifetime and loved by so many. The family invites all to a celebration of Duke's life to be held on Friday, April 16 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Parish, 660 Florin Road, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Besides being a competent, confident and accomplished engineer Duke was a warm and affectionate friend. His manner was always easy but his dedication and determination were always firm. His devotion to friends and family shined through. He was a pleasure to work with and remained a friend long after the work was done. He'll be missed but, most importantly, he'll be remembered for his friendly and courteous manner and an easy sense of humor that made it a pleasure working with him.

Please accept my most sincere condolences. Although I've been away from Aerojet 8 years now, I still have fond memories of Duke, who always was a great engineer and fun to work with. Everyone who knew him will miss him greatly.

Cindy, Ryan and Jonathan,

We are sorry to hear of your loss. He was a great soccer coach for the Wolverines and he always encouraged Collin to do his best and enjoy the game. We also will remember all the fun we had at the Oshiro camping trip with you and the family. He will be missed but not forgotten.

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. My daughter and I would be invited to some of my parents gatherings of their friends and he would always have a warm smile and kind words. Malaiyah and I will miss his presence at all the future gatherings!

We are deeply saddened over the loss of Duke. Of course, we will miss Duke but will always remember him as a good friend and a terrific soccer coach. Duke coached the Wolverines empasizing good sportsmanship and just having fun which provided life-long memories for Kenneth. Also, Duke will always be part of our cherished memories of our annual camping trips to Trinity. And,we're sure our group of friends will still get together over dinner and a drink now and then, but it just won't be the same without Duke.

Hello Cindy, Ryan, and Jon
It was such a loss to hear about Duke's passing away. I still remember him when he first came to Aerojet after graduating from UC Davis. He helped me in all the sports. He got me started running by signing me up on the 5k run with big brothers and big sisters. He was my office mate at Aerojet and I feel very lucky to see him when he was visiting San Diego just a few months ago. He will not be forgotten.

Cindy, Ryan, and Jon,

Our hearts and prayers go out to you all. This is such a great loss for all of us. He was a dear friend and coach to us. We hold so many great memories of Duke and our Wolverines team. We spent so many years together and watched our kids grow up together in school and on the team. Duke’s patience with the team was incredible. He put a lot of heart and sacrifices into each game year after year. He taught them great skills, good sportsmanship and always had something positive to say about each player including my son, Shane. We will always appreciate him and hope that everything that he instilled in our sons they will take and pay it forward. He will not be forgotten.
