PETERSEN, Eddie Henry

In his 80th year, Eddie Petersen peacefully crossed the threshold on September 3, 2013 with family around him. Born April 3, 1933 in Hjorring, Denmark, Eddie was the adopted and only child of Erna and Hans Petersen. Sonny (Sunny), as he was called by his Danish relatives, lived a happy childhood helping his parents in their bakery in Copenhagen. In school, football (soccer) was his favorite subject. Just after his seventh birthday Germany invaded Denmark. Eddie was always proud of his father's links to the Danish resistance. Two years after the war the family came to America, settling in the Bay Area.

At age 20, Eddie joined the U.S. Army. Stationed in Germany, he often visited his Danish relatives. After his two years in the Army Infantry, Eddie was back in Alameda, a clerk and manager at a local grocery store. His good looks and charming accent were a plus for his active dating life.

Head over heels in 1960 Eddie followed his heart and soon-to- be wife to Sacramento. Bev and Ed Petersen married and resided in Carmichael for 53 years.

A loving father to three boys, Steve, Stan and Craig, Eddie worked over the years as a milk delivery driver and chauffeur. An avid camper and boater, Eddie and Beverly were active in the Carmichael Elks.

His beloved wife preceeded him to the Pearly Gates by only six weeks. Eddie died from cancer, surrounded and visisted by loving sons, daughters-in-law, granddaughters, niece, nephews, friends and relations. He is sorely missed. No public service is planned.
