Marvin Barbre Obituary

Born on June 11, 1948 in El Campo, Texas to Albertha Waligura Barbre Goree and Marion David Barbre Jr., Britt died on March 14, 2026 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Britt grew up in a farming community in Wharton County Texas. A proud decedent of the Schoellmann, Huffman and Waligura Texas pioneer families, Britt received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University in 1970 and completed his Teacher Accreditation from San Francisco State University College of Education in 1998.

During his early life he worked to provide physical rehabilitative services to disabled individuals, first with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission in the early 1970s and then as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and a medical rehabilitation specialist with Continental Insurance Corporation from 1979 until 1997. Britt held positions of Western Regional Manager, Senior VP, and CEO / COO of Continental's subsidiary company, CRRx.

In 1998, he made a career change to elementary education in order to engage and connect with children. He was a successful dedicated teacher of second, third and fourth grade students in Elk Grove Unified School District for 17 years. He often said that it was the hardest, but most satisfying job in his life.

He is survived by his younger brother, Allen Roy Barbre of Wharton, Texas, several nieces and nephews, and many friends in Texas, California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Chicago. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald David Barbre, sister Barbra Jane Barbre, step-father Bowen H. Goree, and parents. Britt lived in many great locations, but Sacramento was his forever home, where he had long lasting friendships. Founder and President of the Elmhurst Neighborhood in the early 1990s, Britt made the move to River Park on his return to Sacramento in 1998. He was a life-long bachelor, but had the friendships of many good people. a life-long bachelor, but had the friendships of many good people. He was the co-founder of River Park Gay and Lesbian Outreach, a social organization. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening and walking his beloved dogs Ripley and Darcy in River Park, a daily activity that brought him many River Park friends.

We will celebrate Britt's life with a Memorial Gathering of friends and family on Saturday, April 11 from 1 to 3 p.m., at Piatti Restaurant, 571 Pavilions Lane in Sacramento. All are invited to attend.
