Eileen Riesinger Obituary

Eileen F. Riesinger

October 10, 1936 - August 1, 2024

Sacramento, California - It is with a heavy heart we announce that Eileen F. Riesinger passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024. She was 87 years old. Eileen, known as Oma to her family, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who touched the lives of all those she met. She will be deeply missed.

Eileen was born October 10, 1936 in Bellport, Long Island, New York. She received her nursing degree from New York Foundling Hospital in 1957. Shortly after, she "came West" on a bus to Sacramento, CA with her best friend. She met the love of her life, Tony, on a blind date. They were happily married for 60 years. Both Eileen and Tony were "rebels" in the family because they moved West. Some of her best memories came from traveling the world with Tony.

Eileen was a Special Education Teacher's Associate in the Sacramento Unified School District for many years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 65 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and was especially proud of her work on the Board of Reconciliation. In her later years, she was heavily involved in volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, Francis House, Sacramento Self Help Housing, Brother Martin's Courtyard, and Family Promise. Eileen had a passion for social issues which was reflected in her involvement on the Peace Action Board and Grandmother's for Peace. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society.

Eileen is survived by her daughter Debra (Don), son Scott (Teri); grandchildren Matthew (Kimberly), Jeremy (Heather), Andrew and Sarah; great grandchildren Sadie, Gracie, Noah and Avery; brother-in-law Pete, sister-in-law Rosemary, along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park 4300 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA with a reception to follow. There will be a public viewing Thursday, August 22nd from 4-6 p.m. at East Lawn.

Eileen and my mom were friends for many years through the church. I also enjoyed spending time with her, though those times were rarer. My sympathies for your loss.

Eileen could brighten a room just by being there. We had such fun at lunches and birthday parties with Shers family. Many stories were shared at Dr. Allen's office. You couldnt find anyone more kind and loving than Eileen...what a kick she was.
Love ya , rest in peace my friend. Prayers for your family.

Deborah and Scott - I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom - she was quite a character (as was your Dad). I pray for peace and comfort for you and your families. I will always have fond memories of them both.

Working with Tony I had heard a lot about his wonderful wife Eileen. I finally got to meet her and found out that it was not bragging, just fact . And through the years walking and cycling past the house we stayed in touch. She will be missed.

We were saddened to hear about Eileen´s passing. She was more than a friend. Eileen welcomed us as if we were her own. I´m sure there was a glorious reunion when she returned home. We can hear Tony saying, "Look everyone there´s Eileen." Eileen´s memory will be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace Long Island girl.
