Elizabeth Grebitus Obituary

GREBITUS, Elizabeth Breuner

Born July 21, 1930 Died July 30, 2008

A native of Sacramento, Beth attended Sacramento High School, where she was active in music, journalism, sports, and social clubs. She was further educated at U.C. Berkeley, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. It was also there that she became engaged to Ed Grebitus, also of Sacramento.

She was the great-granddaughter of furniture store founder John Breuner. Beth followed her retail routes to become a designer and buyer for Grebitus & Sons Jewelers. In addition to running the gift and tabletop division at Grebitus & Sons, she also worked as a store buyer and as a personal shopper with a unique sense of style.

Beth served as the first president of Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento and was also past president of the Junior League of Sacramento. After seeing Children's Fairyland in Oakland, she introduced the concept for Fairytale Town to Sacramento and served as its first President. She also served on the boards of the Crocker Art Museum and Sacramento Symphony League. Additionally, Beth was well-known as one of the most successful and gifted growers of camellias at annual Camellia Festivals in Sacramento and throughout Northern California.

Along with her loving husband Ed, Beth is survived by her sons Bill of Incline Village, Nev., and Ted, Tom and Bo, all of Sacramento; daughters Kate Grebitus of Sacramento and Amy Goodheart of Lafayette; and ten wonderful grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Aug. 17 in Trinity Cathedral, 2620 Capitol Ave., Sacramento, with a reception to follow. To celebrate Beth's life, please let her love for the arts and passion for flowers guide you in selecting your attire.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento, the Crocker Art Museum or Fairytale Town.

My condolences goes out to your family. My mother worked for your family years ago at your home, when I was a little girl and I can remember how nice & sweet Mrs Breuner Grebitus was. God bless you & family at this time of need.
