Francis Bachofer Obituary

Francis Mark Bachofer

March 16, 1932 - August 8, 2024

Sacramento, California - Francis Mark Bachofer passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2024, after a brief illness. His family was at his side.

Frank was born on March 16, 1932, in Salina, Kansas to Daniel and Margaret Bachofer. He was the fourth of five children. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1950 and began working as a carpenter. In 1952 he joined the US Navy and became a Navy Seabee, serving with distinction in Guam and the Philippines during the Korean war era. Frank was honorably discharged in May 1956 with the rank of Builder Third Class (BU3).

In December 1956 Frank married Mildred "Millie" Anita Hake, the love of his life. Together, they had three children: Anita, Lynn and Mark. After briefly living in Spokane, Washington the young family settled in Sacramento, California in 1961 where Frank spent the remainder of his life. His career in the construction industry began as a bricklayer, then serving as the business agent for the bricklayers local union, then promoted to second vice president of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers International Union until his retirement in 1994. Frank was a dedicated member of the union for 73 years.

A skilled craftsman, Frank took great pride in building his family's home and assisting others with theirs. He had a passion for fishing, often spending time on the American River or traveling to Clarkston, Washington to fish on the Snake River with his longtime Navy buddy, Emil. Frank was also an avid traveler enjoying numerous cruises with Millie during their retirement. Known for his warmth, charisma and knack for making friends, Frank had the gift of gab and a genuine interest in others.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Millie (2020) and daughter, Anita (2017). He is survived by his children, Lynn (Dana), Mark, grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea, Lauren and Matthew, and great granddaughter, Brooklyn.

His family will forever cherish his memory keeping his spirit, inspired by the Navy Seabee motto, "Can Do" close to their hearts.

Frank's military service is honored at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial in San Diego, California. A funeral mass will be held on September 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., St. Ignatius Catholic Church, followed by a 2:00 p.m. inurnment at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA with full military honors.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved dad. I spent many hours with the Bachofer family in high school. There was always a lot of love, laughter, fun, and good food. I have cherished those memories over the years. My heart and prayers go out to both of you and your families.

We give them back to you, oh Lord, who first gave them to us; yet as you did not lose them in the giving, So we do not lose them by their return. For what is yours is ours also, if we belong to you, love is undying, and life is unending and the boundary of this mortal life is but a horizon, and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight.
Lift us up, oh God, that our sights may see further. Cleanse our eyes, That we may see clearly. And while you prepare the place for this departed soul, prepare us also for that happy place, that we may be with you, and with those we love, forever. Amen.

FRANK will be fondly remembered. My name for him was Father Frank & Millie called herself Big Sis. They always signed their cards this way. We all volunteered at the State Fair for several years, having so much fun.

Frank was known for his tasty Barbecued Turkey & Millie for her Chocolate Zucchini cake, which was always served on Mark's Birthday to the crowd that attended.

I called him one day wondering how to barbecue my first Turkey. He patiently gave me instructions which I wrote down & have to this day. It turned out great.

I celebrated many birthdays in their home & Holiday dinners as well. I was a regular there for Friday dinners. Frank would always have a great wine toast after saying Grace & lots of stories & jokes were told by him.

He always watched out for his family. He will be sorely missed.

In 2013, I brought home 4 Siamese cats, one of which was a chocolate point who I named Millie. I call Frank to tell him 1 of the kittens had gone behind the refrigerator & he came right over to move it to get him out. He also helped put in my new garage water heater. He was always willing to help.

Included are some of the photos from a few visits.

Frank was the father of my close friend Mark. He was a special man. I admired his dedication to his family and have fond memories of the backyard poolside bar b w potluck birthday parties that he and Millie had every August for Mark´s birthday. All of Mark´s CAC friends would gather to enjoy warm hospitality at Frank and Millie´s lovely Sacramento home. What a lovely garden Frank and Millie kept with fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, and a hot house in the yard! I remember listening to Frank tell me how he showed Mark how to calculate grocery prices from the ads in the local paper. He taught my friend how to know where the best grocery prices were in town. Frank cared deeply for his family and he will be deeply missed by the Sacramento community and all my CAC friends. May the angels lead Frank into Paradise...my deepest condolences to the Bachofer family especially Mark and Lynn.

Mark,

My condolences go out to you and your family. As I read your father's obituary this phrase helped me understand what has made you the man you are: "Known for his warmth, charisma and knack for making friends, Frank had the gift of gab and a genuine interest in others." Now I see where you got your gifts.
