Fred Meggs Obituary

MEGGS, Fred Fred Meggs aka Alfred Leslie Megs III was born on April 18, 1952 in Oakland California. He was raised in Lafayette, CA and died unexpectedly on December 11, 2014 from an extremely rare cancer, in Sacramento, California. He was surrounded by his family as he went to be with the Lord. Fred was an Emmy award winning music composer; he wrote music for TV, movies, documentaries, and radio. His international career was based in Sacramento, and he composed several news themes and TV shows for channel 3, 10, and 13. He also composed for The 700 Club, TLC, Disney Channel, Sell This House, a new show Dads Who Cook, and notably the Film festival winner, From a Silk Cocoon, to name a few. He lived with his family for 17 years in El Dorado Hills, a community he was proud to be a part of. His greatest achievement was making a living for over forty years as a composer, which allowed him time to be an active and involved Dad to his four children. He enjoyed playing music with them, homeschooling, skiing, Disneyland trips, camping, coaching baseball and soccer, and being involved with El Dorado Musical Theater. He didn't get mad when his daughters painted his toenails while he slept. He was a great cook who told amazing original bedtime stories. He was funny, had a sarcastic, witty humor, and loved his children immensely. Fred is survived by his four children: Connor 19; Sterling 17; Elizabeth 12; and Kate 8, and their mother Kim, Fred's sister Nicole, her husband Tom and their four children Kelsey, Christopher, Heidi, and Molly. Fred's family also includes half-brother Terence and his family Nicolette and Savannah; Fred has a large extended family Larry, Sandy, Michael, Vanessa, Amanda, Curtis, Brandon, Don, Marie, Austin, Autumn, and Ma Jeannie Hall and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by all four grandparents, his mother Demi Meggs, and father Les Meggs. Fred was loved by many and respected in the music industry for his enormous talent. His death is a great loss to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 12:00 pm at Rolling Hills Church in El Dorado Hills. Fred was a total professional. One of my favorite people to work with. He wrote music for many of our tv commercials and videos. He was always positive and willing to get the music just right. He was also a brilliant improviser. I did a live show with Dutch Falconi and Fred, with no rehearsal, came up with flawless jingles and music cues on the spot! A rare talent and a great guy. He will be sorely missed.

Fred was a great neighbor the Laguna area of Elk Grove. We shared many a laugh and great BBQ's with Kim and my wife at the time, Janet. A favorite time was our trip to Puerto Vallarta together. He will be missed greatly by all.
