Gabriel Martinez Obituary
Gabriel Anthony Martinez, born in Sacramento May 31, 1982, was taken from us at the age of 24 on the morning of June 25, 2006. Until then, Gabriel anticipated a life with his beloved Michelle Jefferson. Ever loyal, Gabriel loved life, family and friends, and restoring cars. The many grieving include his father, Gonzalo Martinez and friend, Patti Coughlin; and paternal grandparents, Gonzalo, Sr. and Guadelupe Martinez. Gabriel's adoring mother, Elena Janes and step-father, Greg; are joined in grief by grandmother, Rose Pidcock (grandfather George Pidcock predeceased); brothers Vincent and Christopher Janes and sister, Macey Janes. Other survivors include Uncle Anthony Pidcock; cousins Anthony Pidcock II, Tycen Pidcock and Angela Mould; Aunt Genevieve Markey; cousins Jessica Burns and Jolene Rafanan. Family and friends are invited for the recitation of the Holy Rosary on Thursday, July 6 at 7 PM and for the Prayer Service on Friday, July 7 at 10 AM. All of the above at E ast Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. Interment East Lawn Memorial Park.

Gabriel,
It was twenty five years ago today at 12:03pm that you entered the world. My first look at you is still so vivid of a memory, it will be etched in my heart forever. At last... I got to hold you in my arms. I just never thought that we would have such a short time together. Some days I feel my heart can't take anymore and then you do something to let me know you are still with me. Today, I will think of you and your beautiful spirit and remember what an amazing gift God gave to us that day.

I am so blessed to have had you in my life,you were a precious gift. Nothing can ever change the bond we have between us, you will always be a part of me. I will carry you in my heart forever. Dear Elena, even though we've just met a few weeks ago {November/December 2006}, Steve and Alex wanted to express our Condolences to you. Your Son Gabriel was no doubt a great Friend to one and all and enjoyed life and his Family and Friends, it shows in his great Pictures.
We're glad to have met you, if even in this way, through a Bereavement Group, but that is what the Group is about, helping each other out in our times of need.
Know that we are always here for you, whenever you might need someone other than immediate Family or Long-Time Friends to talk to, or just to say "Hi" and to let us know how your doing.
Take care until later, know that we are thinking about you and are here for you always. You are in our Prayers and Thoughts always as well.

Gabriel,
It has been seven long weeks since you departed this earth. There is such a huge empty space that your beautiful spirit filled here with us. My heart aches every second since you left, my chest and throat have such a tightness that I find it almost impossible to breathe. I have the hardest time focusing on anything, my mind is constantly wandering back to the same question that goes unanswered......Why did this have to happen? Why are we here without you?
I miss your handsome face and your beautiful smile, I miss your feigned annoyance if I missed your call, I miss your jokes and the way you loved to tease (especially your brothers). I miss everything about you. There were so many more things that I thought we would share in this life time, dancing at your wedding, the birth of your babies, just watching you enjoy the life you wanted so badly.So many dreams went with you the day you were taken from us.
You will forever be on my mind and in my heart. I love you now and always......

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Gabriel,
It's so hard to believe it has been three weeks since we lost you. I know that all of your family and those close to you are feeling the emptiness you've left here without you. I just hope that everyone that has had a place in your life can find peace, though I know that is going to be a nearly impossible task. The message you sent was so touching, thank you for that, it meant so much to him. You are and always will be loved by your dad and mom , Patti and Greg ,your brothers and sister, your grandparents, aunts and uncles,and all of your cousins. I know you would want all of your family to be kind to eachother and to comfort one another in this tragic time. I love you now and always.....

Gabe was my best friend. I have never loss someone so close to me. The pain is deep. I wish he could have had more time here. I have great memories that I look back on often. Gabriel,the first thing that popped into my mind when Jolene told me what happened. Years ago when you were little, we went camping at Dillon Beach. I think that was the first time you saw the ocean. I remember you kicking the waves and seaweed doing the best imitation of the karate kid I have ever seen, especially the crane move. I will always love those memories of you and am gratefull you have given them to me. See you again kid.

Our family is shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of Gabe. I wish there was something to help with the pain but I know there isn't anything we can offer except our deepest sympathies and heart felt love for your family. Our prayers and sympathy go out to Lil' Gabe and your family. My brothers: Ben, Joe, Preston, and David, have been long time friends of Gabriel.
