George - and his family! I am so sorry for your loss, and for getting confused about the date of the Memorial / Celebration of Life ceremony that was held TODAY, (not tomorrow, as I had thought). He and I knew each other through the "SVDB" (Sacramento Valley Detecting Buffs metal detecting club) where he had taken on the role of Emeritus Membership Chairman! I agreed to become the VP for Ron Swenson & got a great big surprise when Ron announced he was moving back east for work... George was supportive in the extreme, as I worked to take on the challenges of keeping the Club going; I think I lasted some 6 or 7 years and as I laid the groundwork for a successor, George was kind enough to suggest that I be given an Honorary Life Membership for that service. Health issues have very much impacted my metal detecting over the last two years; I was not at all aware of what George may have been dealing with in his own health. I hope I´ll be able to learn more, over time, through the SVDB meetings. Rest easy my friend.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend the services tomorrow. Please know that George holds a special place in the memories for so many people, for so many reasons, that he will continue to provide fond thoughts and memories to those whenever we think of him.

George was a larger-than-life presence-sharp, opinionated, and often wearing a sly smile that let you know he was thinking a step ahead. He was also deeply caring, and his son Sean (the man I´m grateful to call my husband) carries the best parts of him, as do our own three sons.
George's presence shaped the lives around him in powerful and lasting ways. His natural curiosity about the world and other people kept him engaged in many interests, particularly coin collecting and metal detecting. He loved travel, movies, and good conversation, and he always brought along great energy and a treasure trove of fascinating stories to every get-together. I will deeply miss that certain twinkle he'd get in his piercing blue eyes right before he shared an incredible tale.
With love,
Kerrie Magann

I worked with George for several years, he always had a great, positive attitude toward work and his fellow deputies. He came to my home several times to talk about gun collecting and Winchesters. Farewell my old friend.
