George Plenert Obituary

George Johannes Plenert
April 21, 1924 - June 26, 2022
Carmichael, California - Born George Johannes Plenert, of German descent, in Gross Neukirch, Germany, George had quite the journey ahead of him. As refugees deported to West Germany, he met and later married Ida Reisner in 1946. They traveled to the United States in 1953 with their first child. They had been proud US citizens for over 50 years and lived in the Carmichael, CA area for 65 years. George's pride and joy were his grandchildren and his incredible woodworking artistry. George and Ida enjoyed folk dancing and joined three groups locally who danced for free at festivals, senior centers and performed in many events. George will be remembered for his eagerness to help anyone in need, his woodworking, humor, and generosity. He will be sorely missed. George is survived by 4 children, Gerhard, Helen, Linda, Doris; 17 grand- children; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 nieces in the U.S. and 30 more throughout Europe. Services to be held on Saturday Aug 27. Rosery will be said at 10:30 followed by the funeral service at 11 AM at St John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, where during its early years George built their first three alters including a portable alter. The address is 5701 Locust Avenue, Carmichael, CA - (916) 481-8845. Reception following in the library that George built along with church volunteers for the attached school.

My wife, Leilani, & I were very sad to hear of George's passing. I shared the following information with all of our SIR "Country Club Aires" (CCA) members and a number of them said they too were very sorry to hear he's gone. Here is the information I sent them along with a link to this obituary:
"I believe a number of you may remember George. He and his wife, Ida, found us when they were at Flapjacks one Monday morning and heard some of us singing while we were waiting for our lunch orders after having attended our CCA rehearsal that morning. They fell in love with our singing and started showing up at Flapjacks every Monday morning for lunch, always sitting in an area near the back where they knew we´d be for lunch. After Ida passed away, George continued to be there to have lunch and hear us sing. We´d invite him to sit with us for lunch rather than eat alone. A number of us even attended a 90th birthday celebration for George at his home in Carmichael, which he built, just south of the Elks Lodge. His home was filled with beautiful and ornate furniture that George masterfully built himself. After getting to the point of needing daily assistance, George moved into Atria Carmichael Oaks. He never missed a CCA performance when we were there. He was a good man, a hard worker and great CCA fan. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to meet & know him."
"May he rest in peace!"
